27- and 36-hole courses: several days of golf without changing club

9 min read

Four rounds in four days, and no two alike: that is the promise of clubs with 27 or 36 holes, where a golf week does not mean repacking the suitcase every evening. Here are twelve addresses, from Monferrato to Sicily.

Anyone who plans a golf week knows the problem: after the third round on the same course, even the finest layout starts to feel like routine. The simplest answer is not to change club every day, with transfers and bookings to juggle, but to choose a club with more than one course. In Italy these are the clubs with 27 holes (three nines that can be combined, or an 18 plus a nine) and with 36 holes (two full courses).

At a glance: twelve clubs compared

Club Holes Courses 18-hole green fee, weekday
Bogogno 36 Conte and Bonora 90-115 euros (2026 rates)
Castello di Tolcinasco 36 Blue, Yellow, Red + executive 50-70 euros (2026 rates)
Torino La Mandria 36 Blue and Yellow 120 or 140 euros (rates with no year)

Villa Carolina 36 La Marchesa and Paradiso 60 euros (rates with no year)
Chervò San Vigilio 36 Three championship nines + executive not published

Piedmont: five 36-hole clubs

In Piedmont, five clubs offer two 18-hole courses, each with a character of its own.

The Bogogno Golf Resort, opened in 1997, has two par 72 courses by Robert Von Hagge: the Conte, a links-style layout, and the Bonora, a parkland course among the woods of the Ticino Park. Since 2006 it has hosted the first stage of the European Qualifying School, the only one in Italy. The green fee in the 2026 rates is valid for both courses: 90 to 115 euros on weekdays.

The Circolo Golf Torino La Mandria has played since 1956 in the regional park that was once a Savoy hunting reserve. The Blue, a par 72, hosted the Italian Opens of 2013 and 2014; the Yellow, also a par 72, has the 14th green on an island in the lake. Edoardo and Francesco Molinari grew up as golfers here.

In the same La Mandria park, next to the Reggia di Venaria, stands the Royal Park I Roveri: the Allianz Course is by Robert Trent Jones Senior (1971), the Allianz Bank Course by Hurdzan and Fry (2006). The club hosted four Italian Opens, from 2009 to 2012. The published rate is 160 euros, with no year given.

In Monferrato, Margara has the Lolli Ghetti, the older of the two, whose 11th hole has a ring-shaped water hazard, and La Guazzetta, more modern and dotted with water. In all, according to the club, it has hosted 22 editions of the Challenge Tour. In the hills around Ovada, Villa Carolina has two opposite courses: La Marchesa, by Cornish & Silva, with wide fairways, and Paradiso, by Graham Cooke, tighter. The second 18 arrived in 2014.

Lombardy: Milan, Lake Garda and Franciacorta

About 13 kilometres from Milan's Duomo, the Castello di Tolcinasco has 36 holes designed by Arnold Palmer, opened in 1993: three interchangeable championship nines, Blue, Yellow and Red, plus a nine-hole par-3 executive course. The Blue and Yellow combination has hosted five Italian Opens since 2004. The club is closed on Mondays; in the 2026 rates the 18-hole green fee ranges from 50 to 70 euros on weekdays.

On Lake Garda, Chervò San Vigilio has four nines: the championship Benaco, Solferino and San Martino, and the Pozzolengo, a nine-hole par-3 executive course. The 110-hectare park grew up around a 12th-century Benedictine abbey. It hosted the Italian Open in 2020. Rates can only be consulted on the club's portal.

Also on Garda, Arzaga combines the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus II course with the Gary Player nine: 27 holes in all, with 2026 rates running from 65 euros in low season to 110 in high season. GardaGolf, at Soiano del Lago, has three nines (White, Red, Yellow) on the moraine hills; it has hosted three Italian Opens, the last in 2018.

In Franciacorta, the Franciacorta Golf Club has three nines named after three types of wine: Brut, Satèn and Rosé. The course occupies the site of an abandoned clay quarry, and the published rates (no year given) run from 60 euros in low season to 80 in high season, on weekdays.

Sicily and Sardinia: 36 holes by the sea, 27 in the sun

Verdura Golf, by Kyle Phillips, has two 18-hole courses, East and West, and a par-3 nine. It is a low-density resort where only electric vehicles circulate on the estate. A word on the state of the courses: as of 3 October 2026, according to the resort, the West Shore is open but some areas may not be at their best until spring 2027, owing to the introduction of Bermuda grass, and the Executive is closed. For accommodation there is the Verdura Resort, whose Golf Inclusive Offer includes two green fees per room per night.

In Sardinia, at the gates of Pula, Is Molas has 27 holes: the 18-hole championship course (White plus Red, par 72, 6,383 metres), which has hosted four Italian Opens, and the Yellow nine, reseeded with Bermuda and playable again since 31 December 2025. In the 2026 rates the weekday 18-hole green fee costs from 80 euros in low season to 135 in August. The reference resort is the Is Molas Resort.

How to build a week on 27 or 36 holes

With 36 holes, three or four rounds can be played by alternating the two courses. With 27 holes in three nines, as at Franciacorta, GardaGolf and Chervò, there are three possible pairings. At Arzaga the arithmetic is different: there is an 18-hole course and a Gary Player par-36 nine, suited to a short round at the end of the day. How the clubs arrange the rounds on competition days is not published: it is worth asking the secretary's office when booking.

For accommodation, the most convenient choice is a hotel with golf rates or packages, such as Verdura's Golf Inclusive or the QC Grand Hotel Villa Arzaga, next to the Arzaga course. A caveat: the club is run by a different company from the hotel, so golf and room are booked separately.

Curiosities

  • A ring of water. At the 11th hole of the Lolli Ghetti, at Margara, the water hazard is ring-shaped and is the founder's own work.
  • From quarry to wine. The Franciacorta Golf Club occupies an abandoned clay quarry, and its nine-hole loops bear the names of wines.
  • Forty-five holes in one resort. At Verdura there are 45 holes if the Executive is counted.
  • A course in an abbey. The Chervò park grew up around a 12th-century Benedictine abbey.
