The two courses at Royal Park I Roveri: Trent Jones Sr and Hurdzan-Fry
The historic course is the Allianz Course, signed in 1971 by Robert Trent Jones Senior: par 72, 6,566 metres from the men's championship tees (slope 143, rating 74.4). The club stresses its innovative use of bunkers and water hazards, with greens and hazards arranged to force you to think through every shot. According to Royal Park it is regularly among the top 50 courses in Europe and was first in Italy in the top100golfcourses.com ranking in 2016, 2017 and 2023. The 17th hole, the signature hole, was called by the Gazzetta dello Sport in 2011 “the most beautiful hole in Italy”.
The second, the Allianz Bank Course, dates from 2006 and is by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, in their first European project. It is flatter and more open, with artificial ponds and bunkers as the main hazards: 6,572 metres, par 72, slope 140. Golf Digest and Golf World named it Best New Course 2014; the signature hole is the 18th.
Playing at Royal Park I Roveri as a guest
The club welcomes, the website says, “members, guests and tourists”. The published price list shows a green fee of 160 euros, the same on weekdays and public holidays and in high and low season, and 80 euros for under-18s; the price list gives no year. For equipment: golf buggy 60 euros, electric trolley 30, hand trolley 10 and bag 40.
The welcome is well looked after: at reception you get directions to the changing rooms, restaurant and practice area, then the golf buggy and a short briefing ten minutes before the start. The interval between tee times is ten minutes, for a steady pace of play, and at the end of the round the irons are cleaned. The required handicap and closing day are not published: ask the office, on 011 923 55 00.
The club: the Agnelli family, La Mandria and clubhouse
Royal Park I Roveri was born in 1971 at the wish of the Agnelli family and is surrounded by the Alps and by La Mandria Natural Park, a short distance from the Reggia di Venaria Reale, built in 1651 for the hunting parties of Duke Charles Emmanuel II. The club tells of close encounters with the protected wildlife of the reserve.
The clubhouse lounge, designed by Brunello Cucinelli, was inaugurated in 2024; the restaurant room, renovated in 2021, has 80 seats and offers Piedmontese and Mediterranean cuisine. Tournaments include four Italian Opens (2009-2012), the 2021 European Ladies' Amateur, the 2022 World University Championships and the 2024 European Amateur Team Championship. Since 2019 there has been the Edoardo Molinari Golf Academy, with driving range, short game area and putting green.
