The courses at Circolo Golf Torino La Mandria: Blue and Yellow in the Savoy park

The course lies inside the La Mandria regional park, formerly the Savoy hunting reserve, next to the Royal Palace of Venaria Reale. The club insists on one point: everything is at the service of golf, with no roads or buildings along the holes.

The Blue Course, 18 holes, par 72, dates from 1956 and was designed by the architect John Stenton Fleming Morrison, chosen to turn a portion of the La Mandria forest into “the finest golf course of its day”. The Italian Opens of 2013 and 2014 were played here. The 6th is the hardest par 4 (handicap 1), the 15th the longest par 5, and near the finish the 16th is a long par 3 with the green ringed by bunkers and a stream twenty metres short of it.

The Yellow Course, also 18 holes and par 72, came together in stages: its back nine was built in 1967 to a design by the Englishman John Harris. Here water is the protagonist: on the 14th, a scenic par 3, the green sits on an island beyond the lake, while on the 10th a lake on the left makes the tee shot of the par 5 delicate.

Beside the two courses there is a nine-hole Pitch and Putt, open to members only, even without a handicap.

Playing at Circolo Golf Torino as a visitor

The club has a page dedicated to visitors, with a price list that does not state the year: the green fee is 120 or 140 euros on weekdays and 140 or 160 on public holidays, while the golf cart costs 70 euros, the electric trolley 20 and a set of rental clubs 35. The website does not explain what the price difference depends on, so it is best to ask the secretary's office before booking.

For information and bookings you can write to [email protected] or call 011 9235440. The website gives neither the closing day nor the handicap required.

The club: a hundred years of history, clubhouse and restaurant

Torino was founded in 1920 on the initiative of eleven people, with its first home in the lower Canavese, near San Maurizio, on a heath also used for military exercises. In 1924 it affiliated with the FIG, in 1927 it moved to Mirafiori with nine holes inside the racecourse, in 1951 to the Colle della Maddalena and in 1956 to La Mandria. 1957 is the year Circolo Golf Torino – La Mandria was inaugurated.

Its honours list is, according to the club, the most decorated in Italy. The club hosted the 1999 Italian Open (won by the Scot Dean Robertson with 271 strokes, −17), that of 2013 (Julien Quesne) and that of 2014 (Hennie Otto), the last two on the Blue, as well as the 2022 International Championship of Italy, won by Filippo Ponzano on the Blue. The centenary was celebrated in 2024.

The clubhouse, built in the late 1950s to a design by Attilio Berardi, has a patio overlooking the Blue, a card room, a billiard table and a TV room with a large screen; in the Cascina Risera are the pro shop, the juniors' room and the fitness area. The restaurant is run by La Credenza, a Michelin-starred restaurant in San Maurizio Canavese, but access is reserved for members, except for special events.
