Suites overlooking the golf course: where to ask for one in Italy

6 min read

At Masseria Torre Maizza the largest two-bedroom suite, 117 square metres, has golf courses as the only view the hotel lists. Four Italian hotels state that rooms face the course, and it is worth knowing which.

Waking up with the green outside the window is a golfer's wish, but in Italy it is a promise that few hotels put in writing. Almost all say "garden view" or "sea view"; few state which rooms really look onto the course. These four do.

Four hotels with course-view rooms

The views are those declared by the hotel and are not guaranteed at the time of booking: you choose the category, but the allocation of the room must be confirmed with the property.

Hotel Where it looks onto the course The course
Masseria Torre Maizza From the Superior rooms to the two-bedroom suites, depending on category Nine-hole executive par 27
Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort Private terrace in all 73 rooms 18 holes par 71, Italian Open 2025
Verdura Resort Grand Suite and Family Suite, with the sea 45 holes by Kyle Phillips
Il Picciolo Etna Golf Resort Almost all rooms not facing Etna 18 holes par 72 on lava flows

Masseria Torre Maizza: the view changes with the category

Rocco Forte's Apulian masseria is the address that describes the view most precisely. According to the hotel, the Superior rooms (31 m²), the Deluxe rooms (37 m²) and the Junior Suites (42 m²) have a view described as "olive groves, golf courses or sea"; the 60 m² Grand Junior Suite looks onto olive groves and golf courses; the 89 m² Two-bedroom Superior Suite onto the countryside and the courses; the 117 m² Two-bedroom Deluxe Suite onto the golf courses alone. The Borgo Pietra Viva, at 289 m² and sleeping ten, overlooks golf and countryside. Some suites have a private pool.

It is worth remembering that the course is a nine-hole executive par 27 of 1,150 metres, suited to short-game play, and that the same nine holes are also promoted by the neighbouring Masseria Torre Coccaro. The view is therefore of the estate's practice green, among olive and almond trees, not of a championship course: for that, the two masserias point to the clubs in the area, starting with San Domenico Golf.

Argentario: the terrace over the Italian Open course

Here the choice does not depend on the category. According to the hotel, all 73 rooms and suites have a private terrace facing the course, with the Orbetello lagoon and the sea in the background; there are seven suites, each different from the others. The course, 18 holes par 71 opened in 2006, hosted the 82nd Italian Open in June 2025, won by Adrien Saddier with 266 strokes. The building is shaped like a dragonfly, with interiors by the Milanese designer Andrea Fogli. In 2026 the 18-hole green fee ranges from 120 euros in low season to 170 between June and September.

Verdura: the suite with a terrace over the sea and the golf

At Verdura, according to Rocco Forte, the 72 m² Grand Suite is on the ground floor and opens onto a private terrace "with views of the sea and the golf course", with sun loungers and a table for dining outdoors. The 112 m² Family Suite has two bedrooms, two terraces and a private garden, and it too looks onto the sea and the course. The resort has 203 rooms and 20 villas; the other categories do not state a view of the course.

For those choosing Verdura at this time of year, one fact about the course: as of 3 October 2026 the East Links is open, the West Shore is open but with turf works until spring 2027, and the nine-hole Executive is closed until the same date.

Il Picciolo: the green in place of the sea

In the shadow of Etna the 100 rooms are divided into seven types. The Etna rooms have a balcony facing the volcano and the vineyards, almost all the others look onto the course. There are no sea-view rooms: the coast is about 25 minutes away by car. The course, designed by Luigi Rota Caremoli in 1989, uses volcanic stone and ancient lava flows as hazards; the 15th hole, in a natural amphitheatre with Etna in the background, is the one the club calls the most relaxing. For lunch you walk down to the osteria Il Palmento, in the clubhouse, two minutes on foot from the hotel. For those staying at the hotel the 18-hole green fee costs 90 euros instead of 110, and the driving range, putting green and pitching green are included; an Italian Golf Federation card is required, with a handicap or a green card.

Hotels on the course: ask for the room

Other hotels stand directly on a course but do not state which rooms look onto it. The Andreus and the Golf Lodge, in the Passiria Valley, stand on the Passeier.Meran, an 18-hole course open from March to December. The Golf Lodge has suites of 55 to 60 m² and a 275 m² Infinity Chalet; the hotels do not, however, specify the view of each category. In these cases the request must be made at the time of booking.
