At the 6th hole of Gary Player's nine-hole course the green sits on a peninsula reaching out into the lake, and three holes later the round closes uphill with a view of Palazzo Arzaga and the church of San Martino. At Arzaga, in the hills of the Valtenesi, two names are signed to the courses: Player and Jack Nicklaus II, for a total of 27 holes.

The courses at Arzaga Golf Club: Jack Nicklaus II and Gary Player
The main course, 18 holes, par 72, bears the name of its designer, Jack Nicklaus II, son of the great Jack. The club describes it as an American-style layout with wide fairways, and the trickiest holes are not always those with the most hazards: the 16th, for instance, is stroke index one purely because of its length. More eventful is the 10th, a gentle dogleg with a water hazard running along much of the left side, and above all the 18th, a par 4 with a double water hazard and a tee looking onto the clubhouse, spectacular in the afternoon with the sun at your back.
The nine-hole Gary Player course follows the undulations of the Valtenesi. You start from the high ground, in a wood of centuries-old cedars, and meet greens defended by round bunkers, which the club describes as “sometimes as deep as craters”. The 4th is a nearly straight par 5, the hardest of the nine; the 6th is the par 3 on the lake, the 9th a par 3 uphill towards the palazzo. The 27 holes suit every level: for a short round, the Gary Player is a complete alternative.
Playing at Arzaga Golf Club as a guest
Tee times are requested through the club's online form. The 2026 price list distinguishes two seasons: in low season (1 January to 15 March and 9 November to the end of the year) 18 holes cost 65 euros on weekdays and 80 at weekends; in high season, from 16 March to 8 November, 110 and 130 euros. Nine holes range from 40 to 70 euros, the practice range alone 20.
For rentals: golf buggy at 60 euros for 18 holes (40 for nine), electric trolley 25, hand trolley 5 and premium bag 55. Parking on site is included in the green fee, subject to availability. The club, which speaks of a mild microclimate in every season, publishes rates for every month.
The club: practice range, academy and Villa Arzaga
The club calls its practice range “the most complete in Italy”. The Italian Golf Academy works here, with individual and group lessons for adults. Tuesday is the day of the Arzaga Tuesday, an 18-hole competition with a leaderboard, and the calendar continues with trophies and sponsored events.
The golf is part of a larger estate: beside the course stands Villa Arzaga, a Renaissance residence from the 15th century that houses the QC Grand Hotel Villa Arzaga, a five-star hotel with spa. The club also offers accommodation at Borgo Drugolo.
Curiosities about Arzaga Golf Club
- A wall and a bathroom by the rules. The local rules designate as integral objects the wall behind the 7th green of the Gary Player and the bathroom behind the 15th green of the Nicklaus.
- The hardest one without hazards. The 16th of the Jack Nicklaus II is stroke index 1 despite having no particular hazards: distance alone makes it tough.
- Two monuments from the tee. From the 9th of the Gary Player you play towards Palazzo Arzaga and the church of San Martino.
- Starting among the cedars. The first hole of the Gary Player descends from a wood of centuries-old cedars.
