Facts checked on 18/10/2026

Where the fairways now run there was an abandoned clay pit: in 1984 the entrepreneur and wine producer Vittorio Moretti turned it, together with 18 other founding members, into the Franciacorta Golf Club. Pete Dye and Marco Croze designed the course, which opened in July 1986; today its 27 holes, named after three types of Franciacorta, spread across 80 hectares of woodland and vineyards.

The courses at Franciacorta Golf Club: Brut, Satèn and Rosé

The three nines are named after as many types of Franciacorta. The Brut is a par 36 of 3,072 metres: the first five holes run alongside the lakes, the 6th and 7th look out over the vineyards, and the last two enter the woods. The signature hole is the 6th, “the wall hole”: an uphill par 5 with a green defended by bunkers and out of bounds. The club asks of the Brut a mix of accuracy, power and, above all, tactics.

The Satèn, a par 36 of 3,071 metres, is described by the club as the most complete in both technical and scenic terms: water, changes of length and elevation, doglegs, and an island green at the 2nd hole. The Rosé, a par 34 of 2,765 metres, is the most recent, with undulating fairways and wide greens that hide treacherous slopes; the 3rd is a 485-metre par 5.

The club: history, clubhouse and wine

The first club was founded in 1927 in Borgonato at the wish of Baron Edoardo Pizzini Piomarta. The present club dates from 1984: Vittorio Moretti and 18 other founding members turned an abandoned pit in Corte Franca into a course; the clubhouse, designed by Paolo Dabbeni, with tennis courts and swimming pools, opened in the summer of 1987. Major events include the Alpen Cup (2000 and 2006) and the European Masters Senior Championship in 2010.

In 2009 another nine holes were completed as part of the “The wine golf course” project, with holes named by the local consortia after prestigious Franciacorta producers. Today the club offers the Bistrò del Club, a pro shop, a wellness area, swimming pools, tennis courts, a golf school and a Youth Club.
