At the Excelsior on the Lido, tee times are booked through Guest Relations and the transfer to Alberoni can be by car, taxi or water taxi. Few luxury hotels genuinely organise your golf for you: here are the ones that do, and how far the service goes.
For a golfer arriving by air, the difference between a good hotel and an excellent one often lies in a logistical detail: who books the tee time, who takes you to the clubhouse, where you leave the bag. The arrangements vary enormously, and hotel websites are not always helpful: "golf services" can mean everything or nothing. What counts is what the hotels put in writing.
Ten hotels with golf services at a glance
These ten hotels declare at least one concrete golf service, whether transfers, tee-time booking, or rental or storage of equipment. A shuttle dedicated to the course is rare: more often the hotel arranges a private transfer, and the two are not the same thing.
| Hotel | Transfer to the course | Other declared services |
|---|---|---|
| Excelsior Venice | Car, taxi or water taxi, arranged by Guest Relations | Tee times, equipment rental |
| Forte Village, Villa del Parco | Transfer to Is Molas via reception | Tee times, driving range, club and golf cart rental |
| Posia Retreat & SPA | Tailor-made transfer to Acaya Golf Club | Tee times, equipment rental |
| Villa d'Este | Not declared | Tee times, club rental |
| La Meridiana | Course within walking distance | Tee times, lessons, trolleys and golf carts |
| Verdura Resort | Course within the resort | Tee times, rental, driving range |
| Parkhotel Marlena | Not declared | Lockable caddy room, booking at reception |
| Golf Lodge Andreus | Hotel on the course | Video-monitored caddy room, golf cart for a fee |
| Quellenhof Lazise | Not declared for the courses | Equipment rental, course and licence test |
| Grand Hotel Rimini | Not declared | Tee times, bag storage |
Transfers to the course: Venice, Sardinia, Salento
The Excelsior on the Lido is the most complete case. Guest Relations books tee times at the Circolo Golf Venezia, arranges the transfer by car, taxi or water taxi, and takes care of equipment rental. The hotel reckons about 20 minutes by car to Alberoni, where the 18-hole, par-72 course hosted the Italian Open in 1955, 1960 and 1974. The resort is seasonal, with the beach open from late May to mid-September, and has no spa.
At Forte Village, the Villa del Parco reception handles everything: tee-time booking at Is Molas, transfer, driving range, and club and golf cart rental. At Posia, on the Adriatic coast of Salento, reception books the tee time at Acaya Golf Club, the official partner about 15 minutes away by car, rents out equipment and organises a tailor-made transfer.
Tee times booked by the hotel
At Villa d'Este, tee times at the Montorfano club, about 14 km away, are booked through Guest Relations; the course is open from March to December, every day except Tuesday, and the hotel became its owner again in 2024. At La Meridiana, in Liguria, reception books tee times, private lessons and practice sessions at Golf Club Garlenda, which can be reached on foot, and rents out trolleys and golf carts. The Grand Hotel Rimini books tee times at Rimini Verucchio, an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Brian M. Silva in 1995 with views of San Marino and Monte Carpegna, and looks after your bag; for those playing elsewhere, reception books courses in the area and applies discounts on the green fee. At Verdura, tee times are booked online, and the resort offers club fitting, rental and a driving range with free balls for guests.
Bag storage and caddy room
Anyone travelling with a bag appreciates having somewhere to leave it. At the Parkhotel Marlena there is a lockable caddy room and tee times are booked at reception; the property runs Golf Club Lana, 9 holes designed by Michael Pinner in 1998. At the Golf Lodge the caddy room is video-monitored, the PGA pros of the golf school give paid lessons, and a reserved golf cart can be had for a fee. The Lodge stands directly on the Passeier.Meran course.
Lessons, licence and indoor golf
Some hotels go beyond logistics. The Marlena offers "Handicap in 5 Days": four days and 10 hours of individual tuition with green fee, balls and clubs included, and at the end the handicap test of the Italian Golf Federation. The Quellenhof Lazise sells a seven-night package with a course and a final test during the stay; the hotel has no course of its own, but lists twelve in the area, the nearest, Paradiso del Garda, about 15 minutes away. When it rains, the Golf Lodge offers the Boom Boom Room with putting green, bunker and simulator.
Questions to ask before booking
Four questions help avoid surprises: is the transfer included or paid? Websites often don't say. Is there a shuttle with a timetable or a private transport on request? It is almost always the latter. Who books the tee time, and how far in advance? Where does the bag stay between rounds? In many cases the answers have to be asked of reception, and it is best to do so in writing.
