La Meridiana Hotel & Golf Resort

In Garlenda the golf course and the hotel were the work of two sisters. Teresa de Berto Galleani built the 18 holes; a few years later, in 1978, Luisa Berto de Segre designed La Meridiana next door, a Provence-style house that joined Relais & Châteaux the same year.

Golf at La Meridiana: green fees and tee times at Golf Club Garlenda

Golf Club Garlenda is within walking distance of the hotel. Founded in 1964 to a design by Englishmen John Morrison and John Harris, it is a par 72 of 6,085 metres in the Lerrone valley, among olive groves and pines; the hotel says The Sunday Times named it one of the ten best golf places in the world. The practice ground has Toptracer ball tracking.

Reception books tee times, private lessons and practice sessions and arranges trolleys and carts. Guests pay €60 for 18 holes midweek and €80 at weekends, there is a pass for five consecutive days, and a 9-hole green fee is available every day from 3.30 pm. On competition weekends you can play nine in the morning and nine in the afternoon, or 18 after the field has gone through.

After your round there is Golf and Bubbles: an hour with a pro over a glass of Italian sparkling wine, every evening between 6.30 and 9 pm, from €50 per person. On 17 and 18 October 2026 the hotel hosts the Relais & Châteaux Trophy alongside the La Meridiana Gourmet Trophy.

Rooms, suites and pool at La Meridiana Relais & Châteaux

The name comes from the nearby Castello del Carretto, known locally as the castle "of the sundial". Arches, stone walls and old terracotta roof tiles borrow from Provence, and Edmondo Segre has run the house since 1983. Accommodation runs from two 28 m² Classic rooms to two 60 m² Deluxe Suites, the 100 m² Executive Suite and the roughly 70 m² Master Suite Cottage on the hill above the pool, with a fenced terrace.

The pool is heated to 27 °C and has a hot tub and a stream that tumbles over the rocks. There is no spa; instead there is a 60 m² private gym, booked by one guest or party at a time, and a massage room, with treatments from €80 for 50 minutes. Bikes and parking are free.

Il Rosmarino and Edmondo Segre's wine cellar in Garlenda

Il Rosmarino, under executive chef Roberto Conti, cooks from the surrounding land: extra virgin olive oil and Taggiasca olives, Albenga's purple asparagus, cheeses from the Col di Nava valleys. It opens for dinner Tuesday to Sunday, and in summer tables move to a patio of more than 250 m². The restaurant is adults-only; families with children under ten dine at the Bistrot next door, from the same menu.

The cellar holds more than 2,000 labels. Edmondo Segre has been building it for over twenty years: his friend Aldo Griffa from Asti made the first selection, and his love of the table grew from a friendship with Gino Veronelli that began in 1988. Monday to Thursday afternoons, you can choose your dinner wine with him in a half-hour tasting.
