Golf Club Passeier.Meran was born of an innkeeper's obstinacy: Karl “Schaly” Pichler, son of the innkeepers of San Leonardo, opened a 9-hole course in the Passeier Valley in 1996 and in 2004 took it to 18. Today the layout is a par 71 of 5,791 metres, signed by Wilfried Moroder, which the club calls “target golf”: whoever hits where they must wins.

The course at Golf Club Passeier.Meran: 18 holes of target golf
The 18-hole course was designed by the architect Wilfried Moroder together with the MPS-Golf Design team and covers about 60 hectares in the Passeier Valley. The club presents it as a par 71 of 5,791 metres that fits into the Alpine landscape with strategically placed ponds, water hazards and bunkers. The formula is that of target golf: precision counts more than power, because every shot has a clear target.
The local rules published on the website tell you how the layout is built. On many holes, the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 18th, the out-of-bounds limit is marked by protective nets or fences, which says how close the play runs to roads, buildings and paths. On the 2nd and 16th holes there is an internal out of bounds, marked by white and green stakes. The retaining walls at the green of the 14th and the 17th are part of the course, as is the stone drainage strip beside the road along the 12th: details to know before you tee off.
Distance measuring devices and GPS are allowed, while the distance markers on the course indicate 100, 150 and 200 metres.
Playing at Golf Club Passeier.Meran as a guest
To take to the course you need a federation card with a registered handicap or a course permit (Platzerlaubnis); every player must use their own bag, while rental clubs are arranged with the office. The green fee card must be hung visibly on the bag. Tee times are booked online on the website.
The price list published on the website, which gives no year, shows 106 euros for 18 holes and 60 euros for 9 holes. After 3 pm there is the sunset green fee (April to November): 64 euros for 18 holes and 42 for 9; in March the special price is 60 euros for 18 holes. Juniors up to 18 and students pay 53 euros for 18 holes; discounts for guests of partner hotels.
Available to rent are golf buggies (44 euros for 18 holes), electric trolleys (20 euros) and hand trolleys (5), full Callaway sets (35 euros) or TaylorMade (45). The office is open from March to November; from May to September from 8 am to 6 pm on weekdays and from 8 am to 3 pm at weekends.
The club: history, clubhouse and golf school
The club is still a family business. After the founder Karl Pichler, his daughter Renate and son-in-law Roland took up the passion for golf and the project; today it is run by his granddaughter Carolin Pichler, her mother Renate and her husband Dominik. The club's thirtieth anniversary was celebrated with a tournament on 5 September 2026.
The bistro, nicknamed the 19th hole, has a panoramic terrace and is open from March to October (closed on Sundays), while the pro shop carries the Chervò brand. The practice area includes a two-storey driving range with 20 bays, 10 covered, next to the clubhouse, plus a putting green, chipping area and a 3-hole practice course.
The golf school has two English instructors: Nick Booth, a Class A British PGA Professional trained at The Belfry in 2000, and Malcolm John Harrison, PGA qualified. The calendar includes the Weekly Cup every Wednesday from 9:30 am, from April to October (10 euros entry), plus competitions such as the Andreas Hofer Golf Cup and, on 7 October 2026, the Andreus Resorts Trophy.
