Grand Hotel Sitea: a Turin hotel story since 1925
The hotel was founded on 19 February 1925 by Emiliano Lera, a cavaliere who had directed major international hotels. Management has since passed through four generations: to his son Giuseppe «Nino» in 1950, to Giulio and Maria Clotilde Lera in the 1970s, and in 2010 to Federico and Niccolò Buratti, Maria Clotilde's sons.
The building has changed over time: in the 1960s the inner garden became a veranda and the entrance moved to Via Carlo Alberto 35, and in the 1990s the fifth-floor attic was converted into suites. Sitea has been a Historic Venue of Italy since 2000 and gained its five stars in 2018.
Rooms come in six categories, from the Comfort Small Double to the 30 m² Junior Suite in Verde Alpi marble or antique travertine, including six top-floor Executive rooms with parquet floors and at least 30 m². In 2019 came the Royal Palace Luxury Suites, six five-star suites at Via Cavour 13, and in 2023 the Luxury Lodges in Sestriere.
Carignano and the American Bar: dining at Sitea
Carignano is the restaurant of Davide Scabin, a Piedmontese chef who formerly held two stars at Rivoli. According to the MICHELIN Guide it has one star and serves a single tasting menu, «Sangon Beach», an ironic homage to a Gipo Farassino song: the dining room floor is covered in Spanish sand and guests walk in sandals. It is open Tuesday to Saturday, 7.30 to 10 pm.
The hotel also runs Carlo e Camillo, a MICHELIN Guide selection, and the American Bar, open every day from 4.30 pm to midnight, where barman Beppe Loi makes the Sitea cocktail and an Americano served shaken, without soda.
