To play golf in Turin you need not leave the city: Stupinigi is, in the club's own words, the only city course of the Piedmontese capital. Founded in 1953 as a simple practice ground, it laid out its nine holes in 1973, when it joined the Italian Golf Federation, within 14 hectares of greenery.

The Golf Club Stupinigi course: nine short but technical holes
The club describes its layout as nine short, technical holes. The course runs through a park of mixed tree species, which squeeze the fairways and make play harder than expected, with bunkers guarding several greens and a few water hazards. The holes alternate between par 3, par 4 and a single par 5: the 5th hole, according to the club's scoreboard, is the only par 5.
The website mentions a par of 62 and 4,550 metres for men, but the hole-by-hole figures do not add up to that total, so we do not report them.
For practice there is a driving range with 24 bays, 11 of them covered and 13 in the open, a large putting green and a chipping green.
Playing at Golf Club Stupinigi as a guest
The club welcomes guests. The published price list gives, for non-members, 20 euros for nine holes and 25 for 18 on weekdays; on public holidays the price rises to 25 and 30 euros. A reduced rate exists for affiliated players (15 and 20 euros on weekdays); juniors under 12 pay from 10 euros. The driving range costs 10 euros, a token for 30 balls 1.50 and a pull trolley 5 euros. The page gives neither the year of the price list nor a handicap limit.
The course is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 9 am to 5 pm in winter and from 9 am to 7 pm in summer; it is closed on Mondays, except public holidays. The telephone number is 011 347 2640.
The club: history, restaurant and academy
Golf Club Stupinigi was founded in 1953 as a practice ground. In 1973 it joined the Italian Golf Federation and laid out the nine-hole course. Today it covers 14 hectares in Turin, on Corso Unione Sovietica, in the district of the Palazzina di Caccia of Stupinigi, and can also be reached by public transport, with a stop at the entrance.
The Golf Break Stupinigi works in the clubhouse and runs the restaurant. Lessons are entrusted to the WRG Academy, directed by William Rosen, and the club organises competitions for members and guests.
Curiosities about Golf Club Stupinigi
- Practice ground first. In 1953 there were only the practice bays: the nine holes arrived twenty years later.
- Just one par 5. Out of nine holes there is a single par 5, the 5th.
- The Savoy avenue. The club takes its cue from Juvarra's Palazzina di Caccia and the 10-kilometre tree-lined avenue that links it to the Royal Palace.
