Quellenhof Luxury Resort Passeier

In the early 1990s Heinrich Dorfer laid out a modest three-hole course next to his family's hotel. It proved so popular that it was soon extended: today the Quellenhof has four holes of its own, a driving range and, five minutes up the road, Golfclub Passeier Meran, which it helped found.

Golf at Quellenhof Passeier: four home holes and the Meran club

The resort is a founding member of Golfclub Passeier Meran, an 18-hole layout of rolling ground, well-placed bunkers and doglegs, five minutes away by car. Guests pay €72 for 18 holes instead of roughly €105, with tee times booked through reception. Every Wednesday the club runs a competition just for Quellenhof guests, with its own leaderboard; the winner takes home a night at the hotel.

On the resort itself there are four holes, a 20-bay range (ten covered), putting, chipping and pitching greens and a Scope video system for swing analysis. A seven-day pass for the hotel's own course starts at €45.

Tuition is in the hands of Gordon Hume, a Scot who turned professional in 1986 at 17 and has taught since 1993. Options run from a 25-minute private lesson (from €38) to a three-hour taster course for beginners, also offered as a family version, and a basic course with video analysis that leads towards the on-course playing licence. The hotel says Martin Kaymer and Marcel Siem have both holidayed here.

Dining at Quellenhof: the Michelin-starred Gourmetstube 1897

On 19 November 2025, at the Teatro Regio in Parma, the Gourmetstube 1897 received its first Michelin star, listed in the 2026 guide. Michael Mayr has run the kitchen since 2017, while maître and sommelier Matteo Lattanzi works from a cellar of some 1,200 wines. The 'Psaier meets the World' menu is built on valley produce, with much of the fish coming from a fish farm in St. Leonhard in Passeier.

In 2026 the resort redesigned its bar and terrace and opened an à la carte restaurant. The glass-walled Sky-Restaurant Teppanyaki, with a 360-degree mountain view, seats only 17 and needs booking well ahead. The hotel asks for smart dress at dinner.

  • A post station from 1897: the Quellenhof began as a simple roadside inn in a valley tourism had yet to discover. The Dorfers took over the run-down house in 1923.
  • Grandma Resi's blue trout, caught in the Passer river, drew government ministers and other notables to the table.
  • First on court: the family says Luise Dorfer built South Tyrol's first hotel with a tennis court, and the resort also claims the province's first hotel padel courts.
  • A tunnel for peace and quiet: Heinrich Dorfer had a bypass tunnel built to take traffic away from the hotel's doorstep.
  • Arrive by helicopter: the hotel books flights to and from Innsbruck, St. Moritz, Munich, Milan, Verona and Venice.
