Italy's only course licensed by PGA National sits in a resort above the Orbetello lagoon, and in 2025 it hosted the Italian Open. Several Tuscan hotels have a course on the doorstep, and one keeps it reserved for members.
In Tuscany golf is often played among the vineyards of Chianti or on the hills around Siena, but the hotels with a course on their grounds are found in the Maremma, in the Val d'Orcia and on the island of Elba. Some clubs state that they stay open every month of the year. Here are four hotels with a course in the resort or next door and, further down, the clubs that also offer a bed.

Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort: the Italian Open course
The Argentario Golf Club opened in 2006: 18 holes, par 71, 6,295 metres, with wide fairways among olive groves, cork oaks and water hazards, and the Orbetello lagoon and the Gulf of Talamone in the background. It was designed by David Mezzacane, Baldovino Dassù and Brian Jorgensen. Since 2019 it has been the only Italian course with the PGA National licence, and from 26 to 29 June 2025 it hosted the DP World Tour's Italian Open, won by Saddier with 266 strokes, 14 under par.
The resort, opened in 2008 4 kilometres from Porto Ercole, has 73 rooms and 7 suites, all with a terrace overlooking the course. The 2026 green fee for 18 holes is 120 euros in low season, 160 in April, May and October and 170 from June to September; every hotel booking includes access to the practice range. The academy works with TrackMan and Capto. The course is playable all year, and the 2,700 m² spa has an indoor saltwater pool. According to the resort, Rome Fiumicino is 140 kilometres away, about 90 minutes.
Terme di Saturnia: turf tended with spring water
The resort stands around the spring that rises at 37.5 °C; the hotel opened in August 1919. The course, an 18-hole par 72 of 6,316 metres over 70 hectares, is by Ronald Fream. Once a week the greenkeepers spray thermal water on the turf: the sulphur, the resort explains, prevents fungal disease. Since 2014 the club has held the GEO environmental certification and uses no insecticides or plant-protection products.
The Golf Inclusive offer requires at least two nights and includes breakfast, one 18-hole green fee per player per day, 50% off the green fee for a second guest, the practice range, a couples' cryotherapy session and a discount on Swing&SPA treatments. The practice range has 43 bays, three of them heated in winter. For those who do not play there is the 20,000 m² Thermal Park, open to children too, and every Friday evening the spring stays open until midnight.
Castiglion del Bosco: the only private club
The Rosewood in Montalcino is the most unusual case. The Club at Castiglion del Bosco is a private club, and according to the club it is the only private golf club in Italy: entry is by invitation or as a member's guest. The exception is hotel guests, who play the 18 holes by Tom Weiskopf by booking a tee time in advance; anyone who is neither staying nor a member can submit an application, subject to the club's approval. The club does not publish par or length.
The course lies in the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO site since 2004. After the eighteenth there is one more hole, the "Brunello Hole", a short par 3 played as match play with a magnum of Brunello at stake. The restaurant Campo del Drago has two Michelin stars, and the winery was one of the 25 founding members of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium in 1967.
Hotel Hermitage on Elba: nine holes and floating balls
At Biodola, 7 kilometres from Portoferraio, the Hermitage has its own Golf Club behind it: nine holes, eight par 3s and one par 4, over 1,275 metres, homologated by CONI. It is a short course, suited to beginners or to anyone who wants to sharpen their short game. The practice range has a small lake and is played with floating balls; the club is open from April to October, runs handicap competitions and gives lessons to beginners. Guests of the Hermitage and of the two hotels owned by the same family have dedicated offers.
Those who want a second course on the island will find Elba Golf Club Acquabona, founded in 1971 between Portoferraio and Porto Azzurro: nine holes with double tees, par 68 over 18 holes, 55 euros for 18 holes in 2026 at the same price every day.
Where to stay on site at other Tuscan clubs
Some courses in the region have accommodation within the same complex; for details on the rooms it is best to ask the clubs.
- Punta Ala: 18 holes, par 72, 6,168 metres in the Maremma scrub, with a 30-room resort in the complex; 2026 green fee from 85 to 120 euros for the day ticket.

When to go
Argentario, Punta Ala and Pelagone publish a calendar for all twelve months, La Bagnaia opens from February to December; the Hermitage closes in winter. For a winter round at Saturnia, the resort points to heated bays on the practice range. The most expensive period at Argentario runs from June to September.
