The hardest hole at Acquabona is a par 4 of just 298 metres. It is the 3rd, and that says a good deal about a course laid out in 1971 between Portoferraio and Porto Azzurro, which the club describes as one of the first built on an Italian island.

The Acquabona course: 9 holes in the hills of Elba
The course has nine holes with double tees: you play it twice to complete a par 68 of 5,144 metres, short by the numbers but not an easy course. It was designed by Gianni Albertini on hilly terrain inside the landscape of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, with views that, as the regional tourist board puts it, reach as far as the gulfs.
The scorecard reveals the character of the layout. The hole with the highest difficulty index is the 3rd, a 298-metre par 4 from the men's tees: short, then, but anything but a gift. The longest is the 9th, the only par 5 (436 metres), while the 7th is a 135-metre par 3, the easiest hole by index. There are three par 3s out of nine, and two of them, the 2nd and the 4th, exceed 185 metres: a wood or long iron for many players.
Playing Acquabona as a guest
The course is open every day, with one exception: in low season it is closed on Mondays. Play runs from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm. The 2026 price list has a rare virtue: no difference between weekdays and weekends. Eighteen holes cost 55 euros, nine 40, 36 holes 85 euros; for those staying a week there are passes from 280 euros (18 holes) and 220 euros (nine holes). Players under 18 get a 50% discount, and the partner hotels listed by the club offer 20% off the green fee.
The club rents out pull and electric trolleys, golf carts and equipment.
The club: practice range, pool and fifty years of competitions
Alongside the course are the practice range, the putting green, a pro shop, a snack bar and a swimming pool. The club is affiliated with the Italian Golf Federation and has a busy competitive calendar: the website archives the competition results since 2020, and the trophies include the men's and women's club championship and the Score d'oro. For its 50th anniversary the club held a cocktail reception with a prize-giving on 13 August, including the Anniversary Cup.
Curiosities about Acquabona Golf
- One of the first on an island. According to the club, the course, opened in 1971, is one of the first built on an Italian island.
- Short but difficult. The hardest hole by index, the 3rd, is also one of the shortest par 4s: 298 metres.
- Two rounds, one course. The double tees change the distances between the first and second round, so the 18 holes are not a simple repetition of the nine.
- Golf starts at the ferry. On the club's website, next to the weather and webcams, there is a link to the ferry company serving the island.
