Golf hotels in Sardinia: Costa Smeralda, Puntaldia and Is Molas

7 min read

At Pevero the 16th hole is dedicated to James Bond, who in the 1977 film stayed at the Hotel Cala di Volpe, on the neighbouring bay. In Sardinia six luxury hotels have a course nearby or within the grounds, on very different terms.

In Sardinia golf is a matter of geography: two hubs, the Costa Smeralda in the north-east and the Gulf of Nora in the south. The hotels, as a result, fall into three families: those that send guests to a famous course, those with a course on the doorstep, and those that open the doors of a nearby club with a dedicated service.

Six golf hotels in Sardinia at a glance

The conditions for playing vary a great deal from one hotel to the next: a hotel that sells a golf package is not the same as one that merely recommends a course. The order is geographical, from north to south.

Hotel Reference course Format
Hotel Cala di Volpe Pevero, 18 holes Unlimited Golf package
Hotel Pitrizza Pevero, 18 holes Only suggested by the hotel, no package
Romazzino Pevero, 18 holes Arranged experience, private lessons
Due Lune Puntaldia Puntaldia, 9 holes Course inside the resort
Is Molas Resort Is Molas, 27 holes Course in the resort, unlimited packages
Forte Village, Villa del Parco Is Molas, 27 holes Bookings and transfers at reception

Costa Smeralda: three hotels and Pevero

The Pevero Golf Club opened in 1972, designed by Robert Trent Jones; it has 18 holes, par 72, over 6,107 metres and runs between the Gulf of Pevero and the bay of Cala di Volpe. In 1978 it hosted the Italian Open, won by Dale Hayes with 293 strokes, five over par: according to the club it is still the highest winning score on the European circuit. The 2026 green fee for 18 holes ranges from 120 to 180 euros, depending on the season, with a maximum handicap of 54 and a strict dress code: no jeans, T-shirts or cargo shorts.

The Hotel Cala di Volpe appears in the 1977 film "The Spy Who Loved Me", and at Pevero the 16th hole is dedicated to Bond. Pevero sells guests staying at Cala di Volpe the Unlimited Golf package: unlimited play, breakfast in the main restaurant, one round of 18 holes for two and discounted lessons. The published conditions excluded high summer (for 2025, from 23 June to 14 September) and required a maximum handicap of 54; the price is not stated and bookings are made by telephone with the hotel.

The Hotel Pitrizza, designed by Luigi Vietti in 1963, has neither a course nor a package: the hotel itself suggests Pevero among its activities, and it should be said plainly that the club's rate with accommodation included is tied to other hotels in the area. Romazzino, run by Belmond since 2024, instead lists golf among its experiences: you submit a request and the hotel arranges the rest, including private lessons with a local professional. As for airports, according to the hotels, Olbia is 40 minutes from Romazzino and 50 from Pitrizza.

Puntaldia: the resort with its own nine holes

The Due Lune Puntaldia Resort & Golf, in San Teodoro, is the simplest format: the Golf Club Puntaldia lies inside the resort, with nine holes between Mediterranean scrub and coastline, a prevalence of par 3s (the par for the round is 30) and hole 6 perched above the rocks. For practice there are a driving range with covered bays, a putting green and the David Leadbetter Golf Academy.

The club's 2026 price list divides the year into three seasons, from 1 April to 10 November, with high season from 26 July to 31 August: the dates follow the resort's opening periods. Anyone looking for 18 holes must look north: Puntaldia season members get a 20% discount on green fees at Pevero. The resort is about 30 minutes from Olbia airport, according to the hotel.

The south: Is Molas and Forte Village

Is Molas is the name most closely tied to the island's big tournaments: the championship course, par 72 over 6,383 metres, opened in 1975 and has hosted four Italian Opens, the first in 1976. The green on the 14th hole is shaped like Africa. The Circolo Golf Is Molas has 27 holes and is playable all year round; the 2026 weekday green fee for 18 holes runs from 80 euros in low season to 135 in August.

Is Molas Resort, a four-star superior with 72 rooms, has the course within its grounds and offers unlimited golf packages of 3, 5 or 7 nights, from April to October, excluding July and August. At Villa del Parco, within Forte Village, golf goes through reception: tee times, transfers and equipment hire are arranged there. According to the resort, access to Is Molas is reserved for guests of the five- and four-star hotels and of the 13 villas. It should be noted that Forte Village has no course of its own.

Other Sardinian courses where you can stay

If the hotel map is not enough, three Sardinian clubs offer accommodation on site:

  • Tanka Golf, in Villasimius: 18 holes, par 70, 5,393 metres, slope 140, views over the Capo Carbonara marine protected area; 2026 green fee from 60 to 100 euros, open twelve months a year.
  • Is Arenas, in Narbolia: 18 holes, par 72, by Robert von Hagge, in a pine forest of more than 1,100 hectares, with lodges and a beach club reserved for golfers; according to the club, in 2013 it was the first Italian course to receive GEO certification.
  • Botanic Golf Sacuba, in Olbia: nine holes, par 36, in a botanical garden, with twelve lodgings clad in Orosei marble; 60-100 euros for 18 holes in 2026.

When to go

Is Molas, Tanka and Is Arenas are open all year round; Puntaldia from April to November. For the Cala di Volpe Unlimited Golf package the conditions exclude high summer; at Puntaldia high season runs from 26 July to 31 August; at Is Molas the price list rises to 135 euros only in August.
