Building the Albarella course meant reclaiming more than two million cubic metres of sand from the sea; in Venice, meanwhile, the clubhouse is an Austrian fort. Veneto golf runs from the links of the Lido to the woods of the Cansiglio, and it works best with the right base.
The Veneto is a golf region more for its scenery than for its length: courses laid out in Venetian villas and centuries-old parks, a links between lagoon and Adriatic, a plateau more than a thousand metres above sea level, dunes and pine woods along the coast. The common thread is the character of the place, together with how easily a round can be combined with a stay.
The region is best read by area: Venice and the coast, the Marca Trevigiana and Asolo, the Euganean Hills and the lower Veneto, the mountains (Cansiglio, Asiago, Cortina) and Veronese Garda. Each area has its own reference hotel.
Venice and the Lido: the links at Alberoni
The Circolo Golf Venezia stands at Alberoni, on the southern tip of the Lido, between the Adriatic and the lagoon. The club calls itself the firstborn of the Veneto: founded in 1928, opened in 1930. Club legend has it that everything began with a gaffe by Henry Ford, who arrived at the Excelsior with his clubs and got no answer when he asked where to play. Count Giuseppe Volpi di Misurata found 100 hectares around an Austrian fort, which is now the clubhouse.
The course is a par 72 of 6,039 metres with links characteristics: bora and scirocco raise the challenge, while maritime pines, willows and poplars frame the fairways. The 9th hole is a par 3 with a blind shot across the fort. The Italian Open of 1955, 1960 and 1974 were played here.
To play you need a tee time requested through an online form (club membership and handicap are compulsory). The 2026 price list gives 95 euros on weekdays and 110 on public holidays and weekends for 18 holes; the winter green fee from 60 euros was valid from 1 November 2025 to 31 March 2026. In winter hours the club closes on Mondays.
Staying at the Lido means the Hotel Excelsior Venice, open since 1908. According to the hotel, the course is about 20 minutes by car, and Guest Relations books tee times, transfers and equipment hire. The hotel is seasonal: the beach is open from late May to mid-September, and dates should be confirmed when booking.
The coast: Jesolo, Caorle and Albarella
Along the coast the courses are almost all on sand and close to the sea, with the advantage of pairing a round with a day on the beach.
- Golf Club Jesolo. 18 holes, par 72, on sandy ground, with the project completed in 2004. Holes 9 and 18 play to the same green, a double green. The 2026 price list can be downloaded from the website after registering. The club offers Stay & Play packages with partner apartments and hotels.
- Pra' delle Torri, Caorle. The 18-hole sea course (6,045 metres, par 72) opened in 2007 and runs alongside the beach. Its 2026 price list is the most variable in the region: for 18 holes on weekdays 42 euros from January to April and from late September to December, 80 in spring and in September, 90 from mid-May to mid-September.
- Albarella Golf Links, Rosolina. 18 holes designed by John Harris in 1972, built on sand taken from the sea (more than two million cubic metres) in the Po Delta Regional Park; it hosted the 1986 Open Internazionale d'Italia. Open 365 days a year, with an undated price list of 80 euros in low season and 90 in high season.
The recommended base on the coast is the Almar Jesolo Resort & Spa: 184 rooms with private terrace, a 70-metre pool and a 2,000 m² spa. The hotel has no course of its own but offers discounted green fees at Jesolo, Pra' delle Torri and Villa Condulmer, booked through the concierge, and the spa offers massages designed for golfers. According to the hotel, reaching Venice takes about 50 minutes by bus and vaporetto.
Between Venice and Treviso: the villa parks
Here golf is played within the landscape of the Venetian villas.
- Ca' della Nave, Martellago. The first of Arnold Palmer's three courses in Italy (1988): 27 holes with water coming into play on 12 of the 18 holes of the championship layout, in a park with a sixteenth-century villa. The club publishes no price list: fees and handicap requirements must be asked at the secretary's office (041 0973217).
- Villa Condulmer, Mogliano Veneto. 27 holes dating from 1958 beneath the trees of a seventeenth-century villa's park; the undated price list gives 80 euros on weekdays and 90 at weekends for 18 holes. Closed on Mondays.
- Ca' Amata, Castelfranco Veneto: 27 holes around an eighteenth-century villa, with eleven of the 18 holes crossed by small lakes and canals.
Asolo and the hills: Benetton, Browning and Cipriani
The Asolo Golf Club at Cavaso del Tomba, founded by Gilberto Benetton, has 27 holes in three par-36 nines (Red, Yellow, Green, each of about 2,930 metres) and since 2003 has hosted the Asolo Golf Academy, Italy's first federal training centre. The 2026 price list gives "50/100 euros" for 18 holes without specifying days or seasons: it is best to call 0423 942211.
For a place to stay, the choice with the most character is the Hotel Villa Cipriani in Asolo: the poet Robert Browning bought the villa in 1889, and in the 1960s Giuseppe Cipriani, founder of Harry's Bar, turned it into a hotel. The hotel has no golf packages, but it lists the Asolo Golf Club at 12 kilometres and Ca' Amata at 16.
Farther south, at the foot of the Euganean Hills, three courses have a strong personality: Frassanelle at Rovolon, in a nineteenth-century park of more than 200 hectares; La Montecchia at Selvazzano, whose clubhouse was a tobacco drying shed; and Padova at Galzignano Terme, born in 1962 next to Villa Barbarigo.
The Veneto mountains: Cansiglio, Asiago and Cortina
In summer Veneto golf climbs higher. The Golf Club Cansiglio stands at 1,027 metres on a plateau of firs and beeches, with karst sinkholes in the middle of the fairways: 18 holes, par 71, 6,077 metres. It is open from 1 May to the end of October and the 2026 price list runs from 60 euros (low season) to 80 (from 1 July to 15 September).
At Asiago, 18 holes, par 71, on land reforested since 1965, the 2026 price list gives 70 euros until 14 June and from 14 September, and 110 euros from 15 June to 13 September. At Cortina, the nine-hole course (2010) has every hole named after a mountain; the published price list, undated, gives 100 euros for 18 holes from June to September.
Veronese Garda: Ca' degli Ulivi and Paradiso del Garda
On the Veneto shore of the lake, Ca' degli Ulivi at Costermano has 27 holes (Championship par 72 of 6,059 metres) among olive groves and small lakes, with a 180-degree view of Garda. The undated price list gives 60 euros on weekdays and 75 on public holidays and weekends, with a handicap of 36 compulsory on the Championship.
The Paradiso del Garda at Peschiera, designed by Jim Fazio, has white quartzite bunkers and five lakes; it is open all year, and the undated price list gives 70 euros on weekdays and 80 on public holidays and weekends.
The base is the Quellenhof Luxury Resort Lazise: the hotel lists twelve courses within an hour and twenty minutes, offers reduced green fees and equipment hire and, from 25 October to 8 November 2026, the "7=6 Golf Getaway" package with four green fees.

The Excelsior has no car park: those arriving by car leave it at Piazzale Roma and reach the Lido by vaporetto or water taxi.
Curiosities
- Coypus among the greens. At Alberoni you meet pheasants, herons and coypus, near the 8th green and the ponds at the 10th and 14th.
- A course born with a ski lift. The Cansiglio began between 1955 and 1958 with nine holes and a ski slope.
- Fumaroles on the fairway. The Terme di Galzignano golf club, nine holes by Marco Croze, has fumaroles that recall the ancient volcanic activity of the Euganean Hills.
- Five thousand footgolf players. In 2019 Le Vigne, at Villafranca di Verona, welcomed more than 5,000 of them.
