Cansiglio Golf Club began with a ski lift: in 1955-58 a group of friends from Vittorio Veneto obtained 40 hectares on the plateau from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, to lay out nine holes and turn them into a ski slope in winter. Today there are 18 holes, par 71, 6,077 metres at an altitude of 1,027 metres, among forests of fir and beech with karst sinkholes in the middle of the fairways.

The Cansiglio Golf Club course: 18 holes among firs, beeches and sinkholes
The 18 holes wind across roughly 80 hectares of the Cansiglio plateau, at 1,027 metres, for a total of 6,077 metres and par 71. The terrain is naturally rolling and dotted with swallow holes and sinkholes, typical of the karst landscape, while forests of fir and beech stretch all around.
The club describes the layout as “clearly inspired by the typical Scottish links”: play adapts to the shape of the land and not the other way round, as often happens on lowland courses. Terrain and turf were never radically altered, and since the 18 holes opened there have been only finishing touches: a few bunkers or tees and the planting of some trees. The result, the club writes, is a varied and demanding course with a cool microclimate, healthier than that of the plain.
The original nine-hole design is by the architect John Harris; the extension to 18 was built in 1996 to a design by Marco Croze, who prepared it free of charge while respecting Harris's lines. There are six sets of tees: from the white (course rating 71.5, slope 133) to the standard yellow (70.0 and 129), down to the green (66.4 and 121) for men; blue, red and orange for women, with ratings from 73.5 to 67.0.
Playing at Cansiglio Golf Club as a guest
The course is open every day from 1 May to the end of October, and competitions are held from May to October. The 2026 price list distinguishes two seasons for the green fee: in low season (1 May to 30 June and 16 September to 1 November) you pay 60 euros for 18 holes and 40 for nine; in high season (1 July to 15 September) 80 euros for 18 holes and 50 for nine. Juniors pay 15 euros up to age 14 and 25 from 14 to 18; a token for the practice range costs 10 euros.
You can hire golf carts (45 euros for 18 holes, 30 for nine), electric trolleys (15 euros) and manual trolleys (5 euros). One note in the price list is worth reading before booking: reciprocal arrangements for visiting players do not apply from 20 July to 25 August 2026 or on competition days. The website gives no minimum handicap; for tee times you can write to [email protected] or call 0438 585398.
The club: from Golf Club Vittorio Veneto to Cansiglio today
A.S.D. Golf Club Cansiglio was founded between 1955 and 1958 under the name Golf Club Vittorio Veneto. In 1958 the course, the second in the Veneto and the seventeenth in Italy, was affiliated to the Italian Golf Federation. The club house was the Rifugio Sant'Osvaldo, in front of which the 1st hole, a par 5, began; in the early 1960s, with the opening of the San Marco hotel, which took the place of the refuge, the 1st became a par 3 followed by a par 5.
The extension to 18 holes was discussed from 1984 and carried out only in 1996: among the difficulties the club cites resistance from the Veneto Region, complaints from the WWF, disputes over old grazing rights and financing with the Istituto per il Credito Sportivo. The final cost was 710 million lire, also covered by an extraordinary contribution from all the members. The club is recognised by Federgolf for the protection of biodiversity.
Services include the club house with a refreshment point, golf cart hire, the practice range and golf lessons with the instructor Alfonso Paolillo.
