Where to stay in Rome for golf

6 min read

Sleeping in the city and playing outside Rome is easy; finding a real bed tied to a course is harder. Marco Simone offers it with two Roman hotels, Parco de' Medici with a hotel next to the course, Sutri with a guesthouse on the fairways.

For anyone coming to Rome with a golf bag, the practical question is how the courses in the city and its surroundings solve the problem of the bed. There are three solutions: packages with hotels, a hotel next to the course, a guesthouse on the course. For those willing to travel, there are also two resorts outside the city.

With the Ryder Cup course: the Marco Simone package

The Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, in Guidonia, hosted the 2023 Ryder Cup and offers stay and play packages with the Rome Cavalieri and Savoy hotels. For the Rome Cavalieri, the club describes the Cavalieri Experience: two rounds on the Ryder Cup course, three nights at the hotel, three American breakfasts, a guided walk in Rome with a private English-speaking guide, access to the outdoor pools in summer, unlimited use of the practice areas and transfers to the course in a luxury minivan. The club notes that the tourist tax is paid on site and that airport transfers are available on request. For the Savoy, the terms must be requested from the club.

According to the club, the Rome Cavalieri is a five-star hotel with 345 rooms and 25 suites, the three-Michelin-star restaurant La Pergola and a Grand Spa Club, set in a six-hectare private park with views over Rome. The standard green fee at Marco Simone, in the 2026 price list, is 195 euros in low season and 270 in high season; the club closes only on 1 January and 25 December.

Near Fiumicino: Parco de' Medici

For those arriving or departing by air, the Parco de' Medici is a case apart: 85 hectares inside the Grande Raccordo Anulare ring road, ten minutes from Fiumicino airport, according to the club, with 27 holes on three courses, White, Blue and Red. The club lists the Sheraton Rome Parco de' Medici, next to the course, as its recommended accommodation, with hotel-plus-green-fee packages. The terms of the package are not published: they must be requested from the club's management ([email protected]). The course's price list, undated, shows 90 euros for 18 holes. It has a swimming pool, a restaurant and a Golf Academy.

It is the practical choice for a night before the return flight, less so for those who want to experience the city centre.

On the course: the Sutri guesthouse

The Golf Nazionale, in Sutri, in the Tuscia area, is about 40 kilometres from Rome and 300 metres above sea level: 18 holes, par 72, 6,462 metres, with a course rating of 73.2. The club has a guesthouse with rooms overlooking the course, useful, according to the club, for playing two days in a row without returning to Rome. The published price list is for 2027: 80 euros on weekdays and 100 at weekends and holidays from November to April, 100 and 120 from May to October. No price list is available for 2026. Booking is online; minimum handicap and closing day must be requested from the club office.

In the same area, at Monterosi, Terre dei Consoli describes itself as a residential park with a resort for visitors; for accommodation details it is best to ask the club.

Outside Rome: the golf resorts of Argentario and Saturnia

For those who accept a transfer, two resorts combine a home course with a luxury hotel.

The Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort states it is 140 kilometres from Fiumicino, about an hour and a half by car. It is the resort of the course that hosted the 82nd Italian Open in June 2025: 18 holes, par 71, opened in 2006, with 2026 green fees from 120 euros in low season to 170 euros from June to September. The hotel has 73 rooms and suites, a 2,700-square-metre spa and a gourmet restaurant, Dama Dama, listed by Gambero Rosso in its 2026 guide; from June to September a shuttle runs to the beach, about ten minutes away.

Terme di Saturnia, 150 kilometres from Fiumicino according to the resort, has an 18-hole, par 72 course of 6,316 metres, designed by Ronald Fream and playable, the resort says, all year round. The Golf Inclusive offer requires at least two nights and includes breakfast, one 18-hole green fee per day per player, a 50% discount on the second guest's green fee and use of the practice range. The Terme di Saturnia Golf Club is inside the resort. Guests have access to the spring at 37.5 °C and to the 20,000-square-metre Thermal Park.

How to choose

If you want… Solution
To play the Ryder Cup course and see Rome Marco Simone package with Rome Cavalieri
To arrive or depart by air Parco de' Medici and Sheraton
To play two days in a row outside the city Guesthouse at Golf Nazionale in Sutri
A golf and spa holiday outside Rome Argentario or Terme di Saturnia

Other Roman clubs, such as Acquasanta and Olgiata, do not publish packages with hotels: if you are staying in the centre, they can be reached by car or with a transfer.

Before booking

  • Confirm the tee time with the club: packages vary and price lists do not always state the year.
  • Ask about transfers: at Marco Simone they are included in the Cavalieri package; airport transfers are not.
  • Check closures and days: Olgiata closes on non-holiday Mondays, Marco Simone only on 1 January and 25 December.

Curiosities

  • A 27-hole course inside the ring road. Parco de' Medici has three courses, White, Blue and Red, on 85 hectares of greenery.
  • Sutri like the World Cup. According to specialist guides, the World Cup was played in 1991 on the course now called Golf Nazionale.
  • A spring at 37.5 °C. After about 40 years underground from Monte Amiata, the water of Saturnia emerges at 37.5 °C.
