The Golf Nazionale course: 18 Championship holes in Tuscia

Golf Nazionale is an 18-hole par 72 that the club describes as “technical, engaging, fun”. From the back tees it measures 6,462 metres; the course rating is 73.2 for men with a slope of 135, while for women the figures are 71.7 and 142. The course lies at about 300 metres above sea level, on more than 70 hectares in northern Lazio, and winds between ancient oaks and natural bodies of water.

The design is attributed to the American brothers George and Jim Fazio; the club's booking page also names the Italian architect David Mezzacane. The official website does not describe the individual holes or publish a full scorecard, so the par and length of each hole cannot be given here.

A course rating of 73.2 on a par 72 points to a layout that asks more than par even of experienced players.

Playing Golf Nazionale as a guest

Play is by reservation, through the Chronogolf online system linked to the club's website; for information the secretary's office answers on +39 0761 609308 or by email at [email protected]. The course is at via di Monte Topino 701, in Sutri, about 40 kilometres from Rome.

The website publishes the 2027 price list, with two seasons. In low season, from 1 November to 30 April, 18 holes cost €80 on weekdays and €100 on weekends and holidays; in high season, from 1 May to 31 October, €100 and €120. For nine holes the range is €50 to €70, and members of clubs in Lazio pay reduced rates, €50 to €80 for 18 holes. The club warns that prices may change at any time; the online booking page shows different, undated figures, so it is best to confirm when booking. A price list for 2026 does not appear to have been published.

The club does not state on its website either the maximum handicap or the weekly closing day: these are details to ask the secretary's office.

The club: guest house, restaurant and academy

Golf Nazionale presents itself as “the home of Italian golf”. The clubhouse has an Italian restaurant with a panoramic terrace over the course; the guest house offers rooms with a view of the fairways, useful for anyone who wants to play two days in a row without going back to Rome.

There is a golf academy for lessons and introductory programmes, and the facility also hosts private events. The club handles bookings and tee times through the Lightspeed Golf platform.

Curiosities about Golf Nazionale

  • A former name. According to specialist guides the course was called Le Querce and hosted the 1991 golf World Cup.
  • A Swedish victory. That edition, played in Rome, was won by Sweden with Anders Forsbrand and Per-Ulrik Johansson; Wales, with Ian Woosnam and Phillip Price, finished second.
  • Two names. The design is attributed to the Fazios, but the club also names David Mezzacane.
