The course at Terre dei Consoli: Championship and Family Course
The Championship Course, 18 holes, par 72 and 6,885 metres according to the club's homepage, is the work of Robert Trent Jones Jr and lies in a valley of 160 hectares where, the club writes, the layout follows the landscape and enriches it with spectacular hazards. The emblem is hole 9, “The Island”: a very scenic par 3 in which water surrounds the green and piles on the pressure even though the distance is moderate.
Among the others, the 2nd is a par 5 with a sharp dogleg around a large water hazard, to be reached in three shots even by the best, with a canal cutting across the fairway; the 6th is an entirely uphill par 4, which lengthens its effective measure. The Family Course has nine holes for beginners or for anyone wanting a short round, with technical hazards and greens with pronounced slopes; the club does not state par and length with certainty.
Playing Terre dei Consoli as a guest
The club declares that “everyone can play, from tourists to occasional visitors”: just go to the secretary's office or book a tee time with the online form, which must be confirmed to gain access to the course. It is closed on Mondays; for the price list, weekdays run from Tuesday to Friday.
The published price list, which gives no year, provides for 18 holes 70 euros on weekdays and 80 on weekends and holidays until 31 May, 80 and 100 euros from 1 June; FIG card holders pay 60 euros on weekdays. The Family Course costs 35 euros (10 for under-15s). For rental: golf cart 45 euros for non-members, electric trolley 20, bag 35. Entry to the driving range, balls included, is 20 euros.
The club: residential project, resort and tournaments
Terre dei Consoli was born as a residential park of villas and apartments promoted by the Gruppo Leonardo Caltagirone, with the course at the centre and a resort for visitors. Besides the Championship and the Family Course there are an academy, a driving range with target greens, footgolf and a fitness area. The club presents itself as part of a “golf hub” together with the Circolo Golf Nazionale di Sutri, a few hundred metres away, and Olgiata.
The course has been twice a venue of the European Challenge Tour. At the Italian Challenge Open the Englishman Matthew Jordan won his first professional victory by beating Lorenzo Scalise in a playoff, after the Italian had sent his third shot into the water. In 2021 the Women's National Championship was played here, won by Benedetta Moresco. The head pro is Matteo Niglio.
