Club fitting in Italy: where to do it and how to prepare

4 min read

Radar, launch angle, spin and trajectory: at Peschiera Borromeo a fitting centre measures the flight of every ball before recommending a club. Where club fitting is done in Italy, what is measured and what to ask before booking.

Club fitting is the tuning of your clubs to your swing: it is not about buying more clubs, but about choosing the right ones, or modifying the ones you own, so that they suit the way you play. In Italy it is offered by several clubs and practice ranges, often alongside the golf school. Here is where to do it, what is measured and how to prepare. Prices should be requested from the club.

What is measured in a fitting

The Campo Pratica Golf Orsini in Peschiera Borromeo, near Milan, describes its Fitting Center as an indoor-outdoor studio devoted to analysing ball flight: distance, launch angle, spin and trajectory, measured with FlightScope X2 and Xi Tour Doppler radar, to optimise distance and direction on every shot. The club also offers PING clubfitting.

Under the heading "what can be changed", the Golf Club Lanzo, in Lanzo d'Intelvi, lists a fitting service that includes changing the shaft, grip, lie (the angle between shaft and head) and loft (the angle of the clubface). These are the four levers the fitter works with.

Where fitting is done: the clubs that offer it

Club What it offers
Campo Pratica Golf Orsini Fitting centre with FlightScope radar; PING clubfitting
Argentario Golf Club An official fitting centre; the Golf Academy has a TrackMan IIIe simulator
Bogogno Golf Resort Callaway Fitting Centre for custom fitting
Archi di Claudio Golf Club Club fitting and club repair, with TrackMan swing analysis
Filanda Golf Club Fitting sessions with PING and TaylorMade
Golf Club Lanzo Fitting: change of shaft, grip, lie and loft
Molinetto Country Club Multi-brand pro shop with fitting centre

Other clubs list the service without details: the Country Club Castelgandolfo and Golf Club Verbania (a club fitting department) include it among their services; at Golf Club Matilde di Canossa the pro shop, run by Golf Elite, offers grip changes and fitting sessions by appointment; the Adriatic Golf Club Cervia holds custom fitting days during the year. For Cervia it is worth asking the secretary's office for the dates, and the same applies everywhere for waiting times and session length.

How to prepare for the session

  • Book ahead: the clubs that say so, such as Matilde di Canossa, work by appointment; at Cervia fitting takes place on dedicated days.
  • Ask whether you can bring your own clubs: Lanzo speaks of changes to shaft, grip, lie and loft, work done on existing clubs; elsewhere it is best to ask when booking.
  • Ask which brands are involved: Orsini mentions PING, Bogogno Callaway, Filanda PING and TaylorMade. Single-brand sessions cover that brand's products.
  • Ask about the price: it should be agreed with the club before the session.

Fitting on holiday: the sums to do

A fitting on holiday makes sense if you have time to try clubs and somewhere to collect the new ones. Remember, though, the 14-club limit per round (Rule 4.1b of the R&A) and, if you fly, the weight of the bag: on easyJet the limit for golf clubs is 20 kg, according to the airline in October 2026. Before buying, check your airline's conditions.

An alternative is to combine the fitting with a stay at a hotel with a course: the Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort has the course on site and, as its home course, the Argentario Golf Club, where the official fitting centre is located.
