An aqueduct from AD 52 looms over the golf course: at Archi di Claudio, in the Appian Way Regional Park, the remains of the Claudian Aqueduct form the backdrop to a nine-hole course a few kilometres from the centre of Rome. The layout was designed by Sandro Monaco and is flat, but with olive trees and out of bounds it is unforgiving.

The Archi di Claudio Golf Club course: 9 holes beneath the aqueduct

The main course has 9 holes par 32, designed by Sandro Monaco. From the yellow tees it measures 2,332 metres, from the greens 2,133, from the reds 2,061 and from the oranges 1,887; there is also a variant with the “new hole 5”, which takes the yellows to 2,323 metres. For an 18-hole round the loop is played twice.

The terrain is flat, but the club warns that it is unforgiving to anyone who is not straight and accurate: there are numerous out-of-bounds areas, many olive trees and small greens. The setting is unique in Rome: the arches of the Claudian Aqueduct, dating from AD 52, dominate the area, within the Appian Way Park. The club lies at an altitude of 65 metres, and the only access is from Viale Appio Claudio.

For the short game there is a 9-hole par 27 pitch & putt, all par 3s, ranging from 42 to 85 metres: the shortest is the 7th, the longest the 2nd.

Playing Archi di Claudio as a guest

The course is open all year: from 8 am to 8 pm in summer and from 8 am to 6 pm in winter. The closing day is the non-holiday Tuesday.

In the 2026 price list the green fee on the course for Italian FIG members is €35 for 9 holes and €45 for 18; for members from Lazio €30 and €40. Those playing under an agreement, as the guest of a member or as a free Archi member pay €25 and €35. For foreign members the rate is €45 for 9 holes and €60 for 18, reduced to €35 and €50 as the guest of a member. The pitch & putt costs €15 (€25 for foreigners) and entry to the practice ground €12 (€18 for foreigners). The website does not state a minimum handicap or any obligation to book; for tee times it is best to call the office on 06 7187550.

The club: golf school, Club dei Giovani and AID Golf

Archi di Claudio is an amateur sports association with a declared focus on young people: the Club dei Giovani, which organises individual and group training by age band and level, is for the club “one of the main activities”, and the school has courses for children and teenagers from 7 to 16. The PGAI federal instructors are Daniele Fiaschi, Lorenzo Magini and Federico Reina; swing analysis is done with TrackMan, and there are clinics of two or more days, club fitting and club repair.

In 2017 the Associazione Italiana Disabili Golfisti (AID Golf) was founded here, to promote golf among people with disabilities and to organise events bringing together players with and without disabilities.

The practice ground, of about three hectares, has 6 covered bays, an 18-hole putting green, two pitching greens, a chipping green and a practice bunker, with evening floodlighting for putting and short shots. The restaurant is family-run; there are also a bar, trolley hire and bag storage. Among the competitions is the Circuito Acquedotto Claudio, with a roll of honour going back to 2014.
