It is 284 kilometres from Munich to Bolzano, about three and a half hours without traffic according to the ADAC route. Three days are enough to play three South Tyrol courses, at altitudes from 850 to 1,680 metres, and to spend two nights in two different hotels.
For a Bavarian golfer, South Tyrol is the South you can reach in a single morning. There is only one road, and anyone heading down to Lake Garda knows it: the A8 motorway from Munich towards Salzburg and Innsbruck, the A12, the A13 over the Brenner and, from the border, the Italian A22. According to the ADAC route, it is 284 kilometres from Munich to Bolzano, about 3 hours and 38 minutes with no traffic delays.
The three-day itinerary revolves around one choice: a single long drive, on the way down, and then courses a short distance from one another. The distances between courses are as the crow flies from Bolzano, calculated from the coordinates: the real road, in the mountains, is longer. Prices are those of the 2026 price lists whenever they state the year.
Before you leave: vignette and tolls
From Munich, the stretch through Austria requires the digital vignette: in 2026 the 10-day pass for a car costs €12.80 (1 day €9.60; two months €32; annual €106.80). On the Brenner, the A13 stretch carries a separate toll on top, and in Italy the A22 is charged by distance, with a main toll barrier at Vipiteno. The amounts change every year and should be checked on the operators' websites before departure.
Day 1: Munich, Castelrotto and the most vertical par 3
Set off in the morning, heading for Fiè allo Sciliar. The Romantik Hotel Turm, in a thirteenth-century tower, states it is five minutes from Golf St. Vigil Seis, and offers a 20% discount on the green fee with guaranteed tee times that can be booked from home. The course lies about 15 kilometres as the crow flies from Bolzano, at 850 metres: 18 holes, par 69, 5,017 metres, at the foot of the Sciliar.
The signature hole is the 15th, which according to the club is one of the par 3s with the greatest drop in elevation in Europe. The 2026 season runs from 9 April to 25 October. In 2026 the green fee is €110 for 18 holes and €60 for 9; for tee times from 2:30 pm in May, June and September there is a reduced rate of €82 for 18 holes, ideal for anyone arriving in the early afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at the Turm.
Day 2: Carezza or Petersberg
The second day offers two choices, depending on the kind of golf you prefer.
Carezza (Golf Club Carezza), about 21 kilometres as the crow flies from Bolzano and at 1,680 metres above sea level, is a nine-hole course beneath the Catinaccio. They call it "The Mountain Beast" because a single round climbs up to 400 metres of elevation change. The club publishes neither a price list nor season dates: call ahead. On Wednesdays the Super Greenfee applies at half price, and members of any "Golf in Südtirol" club get 20% off.
Petersberg (Golf Club Petersberg), about 12 kilometres as the crow flies from Bolzano and at roughly 1,250 metres, is instead the first 18-hole course in South Tyrol: the club was founded on 19 September 1988 by fifteen members, and Marco Croze's layout changed from par 67 to par 71 in 2001. The 2026 season runs from 17 April to 1 November, with the course open every day from 8 am, and the guest green fee for 18 holes is €90 on weekdays outside peak season and €96 at weekends, on public holidays and in peak season (6 June to 29 September). The sunset round costs €58.
For the night, head back up towards Val Passiria.
Day 3: Passeier and the way back
The Golf Club Passeier.Meran, in San Leonardo in Passiria, about 32 kilometres as the crow flies from Bolzano, grew out of the stubbornness of Karl "Schaly" Pichler: nine holes in 1996, eighteen in 2004. Today it is a par 71 of 5,791 metres designed by Wilfried Moroder, a "target golf" course where the winner is whoever hits where they must. The published price list (with no year) gives €106 for 18 holes and €64 after 3 pm; the office is open from March to November.
Two hotels are here: Andreus Golf & Spa Resort, which stands right on the course (according to the hotel, discounted green fees on all South Tyrol courses), and the Quellenhof Luxury Resort Passeier, a founding member of the club, with green fees at €72 for guests and a restaurant with one Michelin star in the 2026 guide. The drive back to Munich from here takes the A22 and the Brenner again.
North-east variant: Val Pusteria
Anyone who prefers to avoid the long loop can move the weekend to the Val Pusteria: the Golf Club Pustertal, in Brunico, is a nine-hole par 33 at the foot of Plan de Corones, with a 2026 season from 4 April to the end of October. The 2026 green fee is €95 for 18 holes and €52 for nine. A valid membership card and green card are required.
The programme in a table
| Day | Course | Altitude | 18-hole green fee | Hotel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | St. Vigil Seis | 850 m | €110 (€82 from 2:30 pm in certain months) | Turm |
| 2 | Petersberg or Carezza | 1,250 m / 1,680 m | €90-96 (Petersberg, 2026) | Andreus or Quellenhof (night) |
| 3 | Passeier.Meran | valley | €106 (no year) | back to Munich |
Tips for visitors from Germany
- Documents and handicap: at Pustertal a valid membership card and green card are required; the other clubs do not state a limit, so bring your club card.
- Tee times: book ahead, above all at Carezza, where the season is short.
- Discounts: the "Golf in Südtirol" clubs grant reductions to members of the other participating clubs; partner hotel rates can go lower still.
Curiosities
- A golfing innkeeper. The Passeier.Meran began as the idea of Karl "Schaly" Pichler, son of the innkeepers of San Leonardo in Passiria.
- Princes on the pass. At Carezza, European nobility was already playing around 1905.
- A par 67 transformed. Petersberg was a par 67 until 2001.
