Facts checked on 18/10/2026

At San Domenico Golf the maestrale wind decides the strategy: according to the club, depending on the hole it plays as an ally or an adversary. Andy Haggar's course runs along the coast at Savelletri, a stone's throw from the Adriatic Sea, among centuries-old olive trees and with a view of the ruins of ancient Egnathia, and it has hosted the Grand Final of the European Challenge Tour.

The San Domenico Golf course: 18 Mediterranean holes between olive trees and the Adriatic

San Domenico Golf is a Mediterranean course of over 6,300 metres with a par of 72, designed by the architect Andy Haggar, with Brian L. Jorgensen as shaper, to USGA standards. The club presents it as a links by European Golf Design of London: gentle slopes, strategic bunkers, a layout conceived for the maestrale and the coast a few metres away, because the southern boundary is "as close to the sea as the coastal road allows".

The landscape is Apulian in every detail: olive trees of rare beauty, thyme, rosemary and sage, and glimpses of the ruins of Egnathia and the rooftops of Borgo Egnazia. The choice of grass is carefully studied: bermuda for the fairways, fescue for the roughs, pencross on the greens, described as fast and with slopes that are far from easy.

The course has hosted the PGAI Masters Championship, the Italian PGA Championship, the Grand Final of the European Challenge Tour and the National Open Championship. It has obtained the GEO Certified sustainability certificate.

Playing San Domenico Golf as a guest

The 2026 Pay and Play price list for 18 holes runs from 95 euros in low season to 150 in August; the high band (May to July, September and October) costs 130 euros, the mid band 110. Guests of the San Domenico Hotels properties pay from 65 to 105 euros. Nine holes cost from 50 to 80 euros.

The golf cart costs 55 euros for 18 holes and 30 for 9, a rental bag 50 euros, and the pull trolley is free. Entry to the practice range, balls included, costs 25 euros, but is allowed only to those who practise.

On the course you may only play with an EGA handicap, or the equivalent from another federation, of 36 at most, and in a decorous dress code: trousers, bermuda shorts and polo shirts; no blue jeans, shorts or tank tops. The price list gives neither a closing day nor opening hours: to book, call +39 080 4829200.

The club: clubhouse and home tournament

San Domenico Golf was the wish of the lawyer Sergio Melpignano, who brought great international golf to Apulia, with champions such as Martin Kaymer and Rafa Cabrera Bello. The Sergio Melpignano Senior Italian Open is named after him, scheduled in 2026 from 21 to 25 October.

The clubhouse overlooks the sea and the ruins of Egnathia. After the round there is the pro shop and the traditional cooking of Mimina.
