To win his first DP World Tour title, at Porto Ercole, Adrien Saddier needed two hundred starts. On the Argentario promontory above the Orbetello lagoon, the course that hosted the 2025 Italian Open is also the only one in Italy with a PGA National licence.
At the Italian Open in June 2025, the Frenchman Adrien Saddier won his first DP World Tour event at the 200th attempt. The tournament, the 82nd edition, was played from 26 to 29 June at Argentario Golf Club, at Porto Ercole, and Saddier finished on 266 strokes (-14), two fewer than his compatriot Martin Couvra. A twenty-year-old course, opened in 2006, which celebrates its birthday in 2026.
A course among olive trees, cork oaks and ponds
The layout is an 18-hole, par 71 course of 6,295 metres, according to the club. It was designed by the architect David Mezzacane and the professional Baldovino Dassù; Brian Jorgensen shaped the terrain. The club describes wide fairways among olive groves and cork oak woods, with numerous ponds in play and views over the Orbetello lagoon and the Bay of Talamone. The course lies in a protected natural area.
Some industry sites give a slightly different length; the figure reported here is the club's. The club does not publish a course rating, slope or minimum handicap on its website: you will need to ask the secretary's office.
The 2025 Italian Open
The 82nd Italian Open, a DP World Tour event, brought two novelties to the course. According to the resort it was the first edition with ISO 20121 certification, the standard for sustainable event management, and 10,600 spectators came through over the four days. For Saddier it was a first career win on the circuit; the runner-up, Couvra, finished two strokes behind.
"PGA National" and organic maintenance
In 2019 the PGA, the professionals' association, chose Argentario as its national home for Italy: the club stresses that it is the only Italian course with the PGA National Golf Course Italy licence. In 2006, the year it opened, it was the first Italian course certified BioAgriCert for maintenance using only natural products, according to the resort.
