In 1898 in Conturbia, in the Novara area, a nine-hole golf course already existed, the Couturbier: it was the only one in Piedmont and one of only two in Italy. The Castelconturbia Golf Club today extends over more than a million square metres, where Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed 27 holes with the Monte Rosa massif as a backdrop.

The course at Golf Club Castelconturbia: 27 holes among oaks, lakes and Monte Rosa
The 27 holes are the work of Robert Trent Jones Sr., who designed the modern course by absorbing and enlarging the area of the old nine holes. The club describes it as a place among century-old trees, streams and small lakes, with gently rolling terrain, set in untouched countryside with the Monte Rosa massif as a backdrop. It is played over three nines: Yellow, Blue and Red, which according to the regional tourist board Piemonte Italia are all par 36 and measure 3,085, 3,145 and 3,266 metres.
The course's record is an important one: in 1991 and 1998 it hosted the Italian Open and in 2020 a stage of the Challenge Tour. The course record is 66, shared by José María Olazábal and Costantino Rocca. The club also recalls that since 1987 it has won every year the awards recognising the best courses in Italy and that in 2003 it was named number one. The website publishes the hole-by-hole map but not a scorecard in text form, so individual holes are not described here.
Playing at Golf Club Castelconturbia as a guest
The club publishes 2026 rates for guests, with tee times bookable online. The green fee for 18 holes on weekdays is 91 euros in low season and 113 euros in high season; at weekends 113 and 140 euros. For nine holes you pay 57 and 70 euros on weekdays and 70 and 86 at weekends. The All Day option costs 20 per cent more than the 18-hole rate. High season runs from 1 April to 15 July and from 1 September to 31 October.
A golf cart with GPS costs 60 euros for 18 holes (water and snack included), an electric trolley 25, a manual trolley 10, a set of rental clubs 55. Those who cancel up to 5 days before the tee time are refunded in full; between four and two days the refund is 50 per cent; from the day before there is no refund. On the course you play in golf shoes and a dress code that excludes tank tops, faded jeans, leggings and tracksuits.
The club: history, Golf Hotel, restaurant and practice area
The story begins with Count Gaspar Voli, a great traveller in Scotland, who involved his neighbour Count Avogadro di Collobiano in the project of a nine-hole course (par 36) on the estate; the course, frequented by the Savoy family during fox hunts, remained active until 1963, when it became private and was abandoned. In 1984 the club was reborn as the Golf Club Castelconturbia, affiliated with the Federation; the driving range opened in 1986 and by September 1987 all 27 holes were open. It stands beside the 17th-century castle of the counts of Conturbia.
The Golf Hotel has 21 rooms overlooking the inner garden and, from its restaurant, a covered terrace over the finishing holes of the three courses. There is an outdoor pool, open in summer to members and hotel guests. The driving range with Trackman technology, to the right of the 1st hole of the Red, has 20 uncovered and 10 covered bays; the approach area exceeds 5,000 square metres. The pro shop sells brands such as Ralph Lauren, Chervò, Callaway and Titleist.
