The Golf Club Alta Badia course: 9 holes between Sassongher and Sella
The course, called Tranrüs, is a nine-hole layout of 2,730 metres played twice for a par 72. It was designed by the Scotsman Michael Green on hilly terrain with small lakes, gentle slopes and narrow fairways; the club warns that the way the grass is cut makes the greens rather tricky.
Three holes tell the story of the course. The 4th, a par 5, is the one where the ground “rises sharply” to an altitude of 1,800, with a narrow green. The 5th, a par 4 embraced by the mountains of Alta Badia, was awarded, the club reports, as “the most scenic hole in Italy”. At the 8th, a par 3, the tee shot allows no distractions and the green is surrounded by woods.
Playing at Golf Club Alta Badia as a guest
Golf at altitude has a short season: according to the Alta Badia tourist board you can play from June to September or October. From 1 October the office closes, but the club states that the course remains playable; from then on golf cart rental is limited.
Green fee and rental rates are published on the club's website. You can rent golf carts, trolleys and bags; the practice range is free, with tokens for balls payable. To book, the office answers on 0471 836655.
The club: practice range and golf school
Next to the course there are a clubhouse, a putting green, an area for pitching and chipping, a practice bunker and a practice range with eight bays, three of them covered. The club's golf school teaches both beginners and more experienced players: a way to make the most of a summer holiday in Val Badia even without a handicap.
