Miramonti Majestic Grand Hotel

Miramonti Majestic Grand Hotel has a long golfing history. The hotel's own timeline records a large golf course built in 1932, and one historical account places a course attached to the hotel as early as the 1920s. In 1953 a Golf Club Miramonti still existed, with nine holes over roughly 2,090 metres and par 34.

That old layout is no longer in play, but golf has returned to the same area: Cortina Golf, nine holes designed by Peter Harradine, occupies part of the earlier course's land. The club has been running since summer 2010. It is independent of the hotel: tee times are booked directly with the club.

The hotel opened in summer 1902 with three floors, 24 rooms and 38 beds. It grew fast: a floor was added in 1903 to reach 60 beds, a dependance with 58 rooms followed in 1906, and the north wing in 1911. Lifts arrived in 1924. The guest register, says the hotel, opens with Emperor Franz Joseph.

There are four room categories, all for 1 to 4 people: Superior, Junior Suite, Junior Suite Executive and Presidential Suite. They have Italian-marble bathrooms, hydromassage tubs in some, and no two rooms are alike. Windows face the Cinque Torri, Tofane, Faloria and Cristallo.

The wellness centre has a panoramic indoor pool looking onto the Cinque Torri, an area with emotional showers, hydromassage, a sauna and a Turkish bath, plus a tea-tasting corner. The gym uses Technogym equipment; massages and beauty treatments are given in dedicated rooms. A sun terrace and a tennis court are available in season.

The restaurant is the Salone delle Feste, a hall with views of the Cinque Torri and formal service with silver cutlery and gold-decorated plates. The cooking mixes Mediterranean dishes with Dolomite specialities, with fish, vegetarian options and a long list of Italian wines. The buffet breakfast is served in the Faloria Room, which has a summer terrace. The fireplace bar has billiards and chess and a house cocktail, the Miramonti Cocktail.

The hotel stands at Peziè, on a hill inside its park, 1.5 km from the centre of Cortina. A free shuttle runs to town every 30 minutes. There is covered and open parking and a ski storage room.

• Room 108. According to the hotel, in «For Your Eyes Only» (1981) Roger Moore is filmed looking out from the balcony of room 108.
• Quoted by the Telegraph. The Daily Telegraph listed it, the hotel says, among 20 destinations used as backdrops in the series.
• A register of royalty. After Franz Joseph, the guest register mentions Umberto of Savoy, King Farouk of Egypt, King Leopold of Belgium and Ingrid Bergman.
• The 120th anniversary. In 2022 the Corriere delle Alpi ran a piece on the hotel's 120 years.
