Three small lakes fed by natural springs and, according to the club, water in play on 90% of the holes: Golf Mare di Roma is a nine-holer that looks short on paper, par 35, yet gives no respite. On the coast at Ardea you can play every day of the year, with a sea breeze that changes your club selection.

The course at Golf Mare di Roma: nine holes of water and out of bounds
The course was designed by the architect Leonardo Basili in 1992: nine holes, par 35, 2,759 metres from the yellow tees and four sets of tees. It is mostly flat and not tiring, but the three spring-fed lakes and the out-of-bounds make it very technical. The greens are fast, well guarded by bunkers and not too large; the club sums it up like this: precision gets you the par, courage gets you the birdie.
The hardest hole is the 3, a par 4 with a 90-degree dogleg to the left: out of bounds all down the right, a lake all down the left and a three-tier green. At the 4, a 151-metre par 3, water runs alongside the shot from the tee to about forty metres short of the green. The round ends with the 9, a 167-metre par 3 played entirely uphill, with the wind usually blowing into the tee and a two-tier green.
Playing Golf Mare di Roma as a guest
The facility is open every day from 8 am to 8 pm, including Christmas, New Year and Easter; for holiday hours the club refers visitors to its social channels. Tee times, every 12 minutes, can be booked online up to six months ahead, or by phone and on WhatsApp.
To play the course, and even just to use the practice area, you need the current year's FIG membership card, which certifies your handicap and covers insurance. The dress code is informal but neat: no T-shirts, non-golf caps or metal spikes. The club does not publish a green fee list: it must be requested from the secretary's office.
The club: practice area, pros and clubhouse
The club was founded in 1992 as the Marediroma Golf Club sports association; since 1 January 2024 it has been run by a new company, which has set itself the goal of upgrading the course.
For practice there is a 100 by 220-metre driving range with targets at various distances, a pitching green with a bunker and a nine-hole putting green. Lessons are given by five PGAI professionals, who work with V1 video analysis and Trackman. The clubhouse has a bar and restaurant, men's and women's changing rooms with lockers hired by the day, and free Wi-Fi.
