Borgo Egnazia

In June 2024 Borgo Egnazia hosted the G7 heads of government. For golfers, though, the detail that matters is another one: from the clubhouse of San Domenico Golf, the course next door, you can see the resort's rooftops.

Golf at Borgo Egnazia: San Domenico Golf

San Domenico Golf lies right beside the resort, close enough that Borgo Egnazia's roofs are visible from its clubhouse. It is an 18-hole par 72 of more than 6,300 metres, designed by Andy Haggar of European Golf Design, with the sea in sight from every hole. It hosts the Sergio Melpignano Senior Italian Open, named after the father of Aldo Melpignano, who heads the group behind both the resort and the club.

San Domenico Golf lists Borgo Egnazia among its partner hotels, and Golf Digest named the resort one of the best golf resorts in continental Europe in 2021 and 2022. The hotel publishes neither a list of golf services nor a golf package, so ask for tee times when you book.

Borgo Egnazia

Borgo Egnazia: an Apulian village built in 2010

Borgo Egnazia opened in 2010: a village of low stone buildings and narrow lanes, modelled on the hill towns of Apulia. The 184 rooms are split into three parts: La Corte, the main building; Il Borgo, a cluster of 92 small houses; and Le Case, villas with private pools.

In June 2024 the resort hosted the G7 summit; back in 2012, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel married here. In The World's 50 Best Hotels it ranked 21st in 2023 and 63rd in 2025.

Borgo Egnazia

Due Camini, Borgo Egnazia's restaurants and the Vair Spa

There are eight restaurants. Due Camini, led by chef Domingo Schingaro and built around vegetables and Apulian produce, held a Michelin star every year from 2019 to 2024, and Gambero Rosso's 2026 guide named it the best vegetarian experience. The others range from La Frasca to the Ossolungo grill, and from the Cala Masciola beach club to the pizzeria.

The Vair Spa takes its name from the Apulian dialect word for "true", and its programme puts therapists alongside local musicians and dancers.

Borgo Egnazia

Did you know? Borgo Egnazia

  • A pope at the G7. Pope Francis joined the June 2024 summit here, the first time a pope had ever attended a G7.
  • Villas named in superlatives. The five villas of Le Case are called Casa Bella, Deliziosa, Stupenda, Magnifica and Meravigliosa: 250 m² each, and Meravigliosa's pool starts at 15 by 7 metres.
  • Seeds saved from oblivion. The resort's regenerative gardens grow old local vegetable varieties at risk of disappearing, recovered through its Casa delle Sementi seed project, and they supply Due Camini's kitchen.
  • Papier-mâché for children. Kids' club activities include workshops with the papier-mâché masters of Putignano.
  • Golf with a view of ruins. San Domenico has a links-style layout set to the prevailing winds, among centuries-old olive trees, with glimpses of the ruins of the ancient city of Egnathia. The grasses are chosen by role: Bermuda on the fairways, fescue in the rough and Penncross on the greens.
