“18 holes are too long, 9 too short, but 12 could make sense in people’s lives”: Parco del Golf Musella quotes Jack Nicklaus to explain the choice of a twelve-hole course, approved by the Italian Golf Federation, that runs between a river and its streams on the Musella estate, a few kilometres from Verona.

The Parco del Golf Musella course: 12 holes between river and streams
There are twelve holes, approved by the Italian Golf Federation, making up a par 42: seven par 3s, four par 4s and a single par 5. From the yellow tees the total is 2,404 metres. Three of the twelve, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th, are new holes, added to the earlier layout.
The round is played between the river and the streams of the estate, and water is in play almost everywhere. The 3rd hole, a par 4 with a dogleg to the right, starts from the top of the river embankment. The 5th, a 398-metre par 5 from the yellows, has a raised green defended by a canal with a high bank. The 8th is, for the club, the hardest hole: water hazards left and right, a bunker midway and another guarding the green, where the watercourses narrow. The round ends with the 12th, a 136-metre par 3 close to the club house.
Playing at Parco del Golf Musella
Tee times are booked online, through the calendar on the club’s website. According to the Federation, the closing day is Monday. For up-to-date green fees and equipment rental, contact the secretary’s office on 045 8769837.
Those who want to practise in any season can use the indoor studio of the Quercia Golf Academy, with two bays equipped with radar and simulator, where lessons, practice and individual or group games take place. During the year the club organises circuits and competitions, from the Campionato Sociale to the Summer Tour.
The club: the Tenuta Musella, the Corte Tetra and the inn
The course lies on the Tenuta Musella, in the municipality of San Martino Buon Albergo, about 7 kilometres from Verona’s Arena. The name comes from the noble Muselli family, who built the seventeenth-century Venetian villa that is still well preserved today. The club house occupies the buildings of the old Corte Tetra.
For practice there are a driving range, a putting green and a pitching area, with the teachers Riccardo Quercia and Gianluca Proietti. On the course there is also the Locanda Golf Musella, which offers four rooms with golfing names: Eagle and Par on the ground floor, with direct access from the garden, Birdie and Bogey upstairs.
Curiosities about Parco del Golf Musella
- Twelve holes, not nine: the course now has twelve, approved by the Federation, and three of them (the 2nd, 3rd and 4th) are recent.
- Nicklaus as a compass: the club claims the twelve-hole formula with a phrase attributed to Jack Nicklaus.
- Rooms with golf names: Eagle, Par, Birdie and Bogey are the names of the inn’s four rooms.
- A seventeenth-century villa: the estate takes its name from the Muselli, the first owners of the Venetian villa.
