The Golf Club Vicenza course: nine holes between lakes and bunkers
The layout has nine holes, par 36, and measures 3,005 metres from the white and blue tees and 2,841 from the yellow and red. It was designed by Peter Harradine and Giacomo Cabrini, members of the European Golf Society Architects. To play 18 holes you repeat the loop, and the holes are numbered twice, 1/10, 2/11 and so on.
Water is the protagonist. The 3/12 is a right-hand dogleg that the club describes as one of the hardest on the course, cut by a water hazard across the fairway; the 2/11 is a par 3 with a lake in front of the men's tee and out of bounds to the right and behind the green. The 8/17, at 551 metres from the white tees, is the longest, and the 9/18 closes with a technical par 5: a lake in front of the tee, a bunker on the left and the clubhouse in the background.
Playing Golf Club Vicenza as a guest
The club declares 350 opening days a year and offers a golf buggy service; pets are allowed. The green fee list and promotional rates are published by the club only as a document to download from its website and are not reproduced here: the required handicap and closing day are not stated online, so it is best to call 0444 340448 or write to [email protected].
The driving range, of about 27,000 square metres and facing north, has 40 bays; next to the clubhouse there is an 18-hole putting green.
The club: history, clubhouse and academy
In 1988 the entrepreneur Bruno Cielo had the idea of creating a golf course in a natural setting at the gates of Vicenza; the club was opened in 1991. The clubhouse, designed by Maria Grazia Giordani, was completed in 1997 and includes a reception, a bar and a restaurant with a panoramic terrace: 120 seats, with an area reserved for members and a patio.
For younger players there is the U.S. Kids Golf Academy, with certified instructors, and the Sports Committee organises courses with the instructors Antonello Ballarin and Enrica Prando and series of competitions for beginners and for more advanced juniors. In 2020 the course underwent reseeding work with new grass varieties.
