The Golf Club Genova Sant'Anna course: 18 holes among olive trees and lakes

The 18 holes are arranged in two nine-hole loops, the Mare Course and the Monti Course, for a total of par 71 and 5,921 metres. The original layout is by Robert von Hagge, an American architect who died in 2010 and, with his firm, designed more than 250 courses worldwide; in 2016 the Italian architect Cristiano Petrucci reworked three holes of the Monti Course.

The terrain is that of reclaimed countryside near the coast: according to the club, centuries-old olive trees, clusters of oaks and hillocks dotted with lakes, with raised tees and greens. The design relies on jagged bunkers shaped like jigsaw pieces, mounds and grass bunkers. Of roughly 100 hectares of property, 65 are taken up by the course.

Playing at Golf Club Genova Sant'Anna as a guest

The club is open seven days a week and, as it states, 365 days a year. In the 2026 price list the green fee for 18 holes for FIG members is 60 euros on weekdays and 80 euros at weekends; for 9 holes it is 35 euros on weekdays and 45 euros at weekends. A manual trolley costs 5 euros, a golf buggy 30 euros for 9 holes and 45 euros for 18, with two seats on a daily hire and a maximum of 18 holes in six hours.

To book a tee time, and for the conditions that apply to players who are not FIG members, it is best to contact the secretary's office on +39 010 913 5322 or at [email protected].

The club: history, practice area and facilities

The project grew out of an idea by Mario Valle, who conceived it as a venture that was at once tourist, sporting and residential, inspired by his affection for Liguria's natural resources. The club has hosted two Italian Professional Pairs Championships and served as a training base for the Italian amateur national team, with Matteo Manassero among the players who passed through. In 2026 it hosts the 12th Golf Genova Challenge Tour.

The practice area offers 7 covered and 20 open bays on a driving range of over 250 metres, two putting greens (one with 18 holes and different slopes) and two approach areas, one of them of 5,000 square metres for shots of up to 90 metres. The facilities are completed by the pro shop, the restaurant Buca Zero - Bistrot Bonsai, the swimming pool, a wellness area, a conference room and a guesthouse.

Things to know about Golf Club Genova Sant'Anna

  • The Paris connection: von Hagge also designed Le Golf National, host of the 2018 Ryder Cup.
  • A line from the architect: according to von Hagge, a golfer really plays only about eleven minutes per round, and the designer's task is to make the rest of the time between shots enjoyable.
  • Jigsaw bunkers: the jagged outlines recall the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.
  • An 18-hole putting green: one of the club's two putting greens has 18 holes with different slopes.
