The Metaponto Golf Club course: 18 championship holes among the citrus trees
The Metaponto Golf Club was founded in 2000 as the second championship course of the Riva dei Tessali resort and the first in Basilicata. It was designed by Marco Croze, and the course opened for play in 2002 on an 80-hectare farm.
It is an 18-hole par 72 of 6,284 metres, with a Slope Rating of 130 according to the club. The layout is very open and long, with wide fairways, undulating greens and water hazards, and it runs through a dense citrus grove. Among the holes worth remembering the club cites the 7th, a 450-metre par 5, and the 14th, a 375-metre par 4 with a right-hand dogleg.
The mild climate of the Ionian coast makes it possible to play all year round.
Playing the Metaponto Golf Club
The club has an online booking system, but its website does not publish green fees, a handicap limit or a closing day. To find out rates and availability it is best to call +39 0835 748916 or write to [email protected].
The club also offers stays in the clubhouse guest rooms, with Superior and Deluxe rooms and suites.
The club: masseria, guest rooms and golf academy
The clubhouse is a 19th-century masseria at the centre of the estate, converted into accommodation with Deluxe rooms and suites. The course was the brainchild of Angelo Zella, chairman of the nearby Riva dei Tessali and a farmer.
The club has a golf academy with lessons and courses, a restaurant and spaces for events and weddings. It has hosted the Italian Tessali Metaponto Open, a Challenge Tour event.
