The courses of Golf della Montecchia: 27 holes below the Euganean Hills
Montecchia has 27 holes divided into three nine-hole courses: White, Red and Green. The original design is by Tom Macaulay, an English architect and former president of the British Association of Golf Course Architects, with an Anglo-Saxon approach attentive to technical features, environment and landscape. In 2022 the layout was renewed by European Golf Design, the firm led by Jeremy Slessor, which also oversaw the work at Golf National in Paris and at Marco Simone, hosts of the 2018 and 2023 Ryder Cup.
The course makes use of the gently rolling terrain on the edge of the Euganean Hills Regional Park, with stretches of water and areas of natural vegetation. The website does not publish par, lengths and rating. The Green course is the one where you may bring dogs.
Playing Montecchia as a guest
The club’s website publishes no green fee price list, nor does it state the required handicap or closing day: rates and tee times must be requested from the office. The calendar of competitions, with 9- and 18-hole formats, is on the website and tee times can be consulted on the GES Golf portal. A round of 18 holes on foot measures about 6 kilometres.
For dining, the restaurant can be reached on 049 805 8464 and is open to non-golfers too.
The club: history, club house and academy
The club was founded in 1988 by a group of Paduan entrepreneurs, on land once belonging to the Counts Emo Capodilista, which included a castle, a Renaissance villa and a wine estate. The club house is carved out of an old tobacco kiln: on the ground floor are reception, changing rooms, a bar, the Montecchia Green restaurant and the Chervo pro shop; on the first floor the La Montecchia restaurant, with a terrace facing the Euganean Hills. There is also a swimming pool with whirlpool.
The MGA Golf Academy has eight professionals, uses Trackman and other analysis systems, and in 2014 received the “Seminatore d’Oro” award from the Italian Golf Federation for its work with young players. The indoor Performance Centre opened in 2017. The club has hosted stops of the Challenge Tour and the Alps Tour.
