Golf Club Perugia Sodi di Santa Sabina

The course is an 18-hole, par 72 layout, gently undulating and rich in vegetation, covering about fifty hectares six kilometres from the centre of Perugia. The holes are not long but are full of pitfalls, the club says, and demand accuracy from the very first shot: the layout rewards those who know how to place the ball more than those who hit it far.

The original core dates from the 1950s, while the present character is due to Davide Mezzacane, who redesigned the course in the early 1990s. The website gives a course rating of 71 and slope of 125, but does not publish distances in metres or hole-by-hole sheets. Alongside the main course there are three executive holes, designed for beginners or for those who want to practise the short game.

The club is closed on Mondays. The price list published on the website dates from 2024, so it should be checked for the current season: for 18 holes in low season (January–March and November–December) the green fee was 55 euros on weekdays and 65 on holidays; from April to October 65 and 75 euros. Nine holes cost 35 to 45 euros, juniors under 18 from 20 to 30.

For a golf cart the 2024 price list showed 40–45 euros for 18 holes, for an electric trolley 20 euros, for a manual one 5, for a set of rental clubs 40 euros; the practice area cost 15 euros. No minimum handicap is stated: those travelling from afar would do well to phone the club office on +39 075 517 2204 to confirm rates and hours, which change with daylight saving time.

Golf Club Perugia was founded in 1959 on the initiative of Mario Spagnoli, son of Luisa Spagnoli: the first holes were two on clay soil in the Santa Sabina area, which then grew over time into the present course. The current president is Marco Angelini.

The clubhouse occupies a restored 1921 lime kiln, with two imposing chimneys that have become the symbol of the club. The complex includes a restaurant (bookings on +39 075 517 8581), a bar, a swimming pool, a gym and changing rooms with a steam room. The practice area has a glulam timber structure with a target green, a putting green and an approach area; the Scuola Golf Perugia has three instructors.
