The Antognolla Golf Club course: 18 holes around the castle
The layout is the work of Robert Trent Jones Jr., who applied a philosophy of strategic design around Antognolla castle. The 18 holes measure 6,112 metres (6,884 yards) and make use of the rolling topography: cliffs, steep changes in elevation, wide, undulating greens and water hazards that demand precision. The club describes a risk-and-reward course, tough for low-handicap players but manageable for enthusiasts too.
The course opened in 1997, with a complete renovation by the same architect finished in 2018. According to the club, it has been voted best course in Italy three times. To get around, the course has 7.5 kilometres of golf-car paths.

The course is open all year, thanks to a renovated irrigation system. The price list published on the website, which carries no year, shows 140 euros for 18 holes Monday to Sunday, 90 euros for 9 holes and 49.50 euros for under-18s; the practice course costs 25 euros. The club rents out Cobra club sets less than a season old, golf cars, golf cars for disabled players and Golf Boards. Minimum handicap and closing day are not stated on the website: it is best to ask the club office.
The club: a castle, a crypt and a 500-hectare estate
The castle takes its name from a powerful local family and its history goes back at least to the 12th century; even older is the crypt beneath the chapel, part of a Benedictine monastery, which housed the remains of Saint Herculanus. In 1399 Pope Boniface IX raised the estate to a noble fiefdom. Today the castle overlooks a 500-hectare estate and the course; resort and residences are under development, while the course and restaurant are open to the public.
Antognolla has hosted the PGA Italian Championship (in 2019, according to the website) and the International Alps Tour, and is home to the Antognolla International Pro-Am. The Academy offers PGA instruction, the pro shop sells clothing and equipment, and the restaurant La Boiola is open to the public.
