San Valentino Golf Club

The club at Castellarano, in the province of Reggio Emilia, has 23 rated holes that combine into two 18-hole courses: the Championship Course, par 72, and the Old Course, par 69, which the club describes as its winter course. The map on the website also distinguishes three nine-hole loops, one par 33 and two par 36 (A and B). The home page, more concisely, speaks of an 18-hole course plus five executive holes.

The terrain is that of the Reggio Emilia hills, within an area of more than 150 hectares crossed by four lakes: water comes into play at several points on the course. The website gives neither the architect nor the opening year nor the length of the course, so the full technical data must be requested from the secretary's office or taken from the club's scorecard.

The club's website does not publish a green fee list for outside players: tee times and conditions are booked through the online form or by calling the number given on the site (+39 0536 854033). Online, however, you will find the promotional membership fees for the 2025-2026 season, in a dedicated PDF.

For beginners there is the Tesseramento Diretto with the Italian Golf Federation: 150 euros for five 30-minute individual lessons, two months of attendance, rental of a full set of clubs, 180 complimentary balls and one round on the 18-hole championship course. The club presents it as a 2025 promotion.

For practice the club has a putting green, a pitching green, a chipping green and a driving range with more than twenty bays, covered and open-air. Individual lessons are also open to children and amateurs.

The complex is much more than a golf course: the Hotel Il Golfino has ten double rooms and two family rooms, for 24 beds, all with a small terrace and air conditioning, and in the grounds there are a swimming pool surrounded by an oak grove, a sauna, billiard rooms and nature trails with an outdoor gym in the woods. The Il Golfino restaurant, open to the public, serves reinvented Emilian cuisine and in summer opens its panoramic terrace over the hills; the central hall holds from 50 to 320 people for events and meetings.

• The largest lake in the province. Lake San Valentino is more than 300 metres long and 10 deep: according to the club it is the largest, deepest and most unspoilt body of water in the province of Reggio Emilia.
• Fishing without keeping the fish. Only catch & release is practised in the lake, with a single barbless hook; non-member guests pay 20 euros and no more than 30 people are admitted per day.
