Hole 1 at Molino del Pero starts in the Savena valley and climbs so steeply that the club says it has been cited by international magazines for its “stairway to Heaven”. The Monzuno course, 18 holes, par 70, at an altitude of 300 metres in the Bolognese Apennines, grew out of the restoration of one of the river’s ancient 28 mills.

The course at Golf Club Molino del Pero: 18 holes of ups and downs above the Savena
The course is, the club writes, “exquisitely technical”: 18 holes, par 70, 5,450 metres at 300 metres above sea level. The greens are small and at times treacherous, making the layout demanding despite the wide fairways. The first nine were designed in 1991 by Count Ignazio De Vito Piscicelli, a well-known name in Bolognese golf; the other nine were added in 2006.
The first nine are made of constant ups and downs, well-defended greens and pronounced slopes. The icon is hole 1, an uphill par 4 that starts from the Savena valley: you always hit upwards without seeing the green until the very end, defended on the right by a bunker. The club says international magazines have called it “The stairway to Heaven”. The 2nd is an uphill par 3 with one of the most difficult greens, strongly sloping from left to right; the 3rd is a par 5 with a dogleg left, a blind tee shot and a green 20–30 metres above the fairway; on the 5th there is a water hazard in front, 100 metres from the green. The second nine have more length and, above all, natural difficulties.
Playing at Golf Club Molino del Pero as a guest
The 2026 price list gives a green fee for 18 holes of 55 euros on weekdays and 65 at weekends and on public holidays; nine holes cost 35 and 40 euros, the competition fee 20. The golf cart costs 20 euros for 9 holes and 40 for 18. There are no particular dress rules, beachwear excluded.
The sheltered position and low altitude allow play all year round. The website does not state a required handicap or a closing day: to book, contact the secretary’s office on 051 6770506.
The club: the former mill, the restaurant and the school
The club was founded by Arturo Filippini, now its president, who turned into a golf course the farm where he played as a child. The name comes from an old mill dating from the nineteenth century, one of the 28 scattered along the Savena; some are still visible on the banks and give their name to the club’s road, Via dei Mulini.
The restaurant is set in the old grinding room, furnished with the mill’s machinery, preserved in excellent condition; it is open to members from Tuesday to Sunday. The Golf Academy is in Casalecchio di Reno and offers the “Entra in campo” course (“Step onto the course”), 99 euros for four 30-minute lessons on the practice area and two 60-minute lessons on the course. The club also has a B&B, Le Lodole.
