The Castellaro Golf Club course: 9 par-33 holes in Mediterranean scrub

The course is a nine-hole par 33 at 150 metres above sea level, among Mediterranean scrub. Adding up the distances on the scorecard published by the club gives 2,227 metres from the men's tees; the website also quotes 2,200 and 2,300 in different texts, so the figure should be taken as approximate.

The layout is unusual: five of the nine holes are par 3s. The 1st measures 138 metres, the 2nd 185, the 5th 130, the 6th 205 and the 8th, the shortest, just 98 metres. The rest is left to the two par 5s: the 3rd, at 410 metres, and the 9th, at 493, which closes the round. In between come the par 4s of the 4th (305 metres) and the 7th (263).

According to the club, the difficulties come from the undulating terrain, the rather narrow fairways and tricky greens, softened by panoramic views and several tee areas.

Playing at Castellaro Golf Club as a guest

A golf cart costs 25 euros for 9 holes and 45 for 18, a pull trolley 5 euros. Facilities include a driving range with tokens at 1.50 euros per 20 balls, a putting green, practice bunkers and a short-game area, with a practice ground reaching 225 metres. A pro charges 30 euros for a half-hour lesson.
