The course at Golf Club Boves: 18 holes along the Gesso torrent

The course spreads across the bed of the Gesso torrent, which skirts the whole western side of Boves, at Mellana. It was designed by the Canadian architect Graham Cooke: 18 holes, 6,018 metres, par 72, with gently rolling terrain and typical riverside vegetation. Streams, ponds and bunkers are set, the club writes, with respect for the natural features of the area; in the background the arc of the Maritime Alps opens up, from Monviso in the west to the peak of Marguareis in the east.

There are five par 5s (holes 1, 4, 10, 12 and 16) and as many par 3s (5, 9, 11, 15 and 17). The 4th hole, a par 5 of 497 metres, is the hardest by handicap: punishing rough, a delicate second shot with out of bounds on the left and a lake on the right, and a well-protected kidney-shaped green. At the 6th, a par 4 of just 263 metres hides a water hazard in front, and the 8th, a par 4 of 377 metres, has a large lake on the left. The longest is the 16th, a par 5 of 504 metres; the shortest the 11th, a par 3 of 134. For the club the best is the 18th, a par 4 of 369 metres with a raised green.
