Facts checked on 18/10/2026

The Caiolo course doubled its holes in record time: work began in the autumn of 2009 and all eighteen holes opened on 16 October 2010. The push came from the Lombardy Professionals Championship of 2007, played here when the course still had only nine holes.

The Valtellina Golf Club course: 18 holes on the banks of the Adda

The design dates from the mid-1990s: it was signed by Fulvio Bani under the supervision of the architect Fernando Grattirola. The result is a par 71 of 6,196 metres from the white tees, laid out on almost entirely flat ground along the left bank of the Adda, which is easy to walk.

The layout alternates long holes with very short ones: four par 3s among the first twelve, including the 12th, just 162 metres, the easiest by stroke index. The most demanding are two par 4s of over 400 metres: the 7th, number one on the difficulty index, and the 13th, number two. Six sets of tees, from the 4,466 metres of the orange tees to the 6,196 of the white, let you adapt the course to your own level.

Around it lie the terraced vineyards of the Rhaetian Alps on one side and the woods of the Orobie on the other; in the background, the Adamello massif and the granite peaks of the Disgrazia.

Playing Valtellina Golf Club as a guest

The club is open from March to November and tee times are booked online through the Nexxchange platform. The price list published on the website, which does not state its year (consulted in October 2026), sets 68 euros for 18 holes for Italian Golf Federation members and 75 euros, VAT included, for foreign guests; nine holes cost 45 and 50 euros. There is no difference between weekdays and weekends.

A golf buggy for 18 holes costs 50 euros for non-member federation players and 60 for foreign guests, a hand trolley 5 euros. For practice there are two putting greens, a pitching green and a driving range with six outdoor bays and five covered. The website gives no closing day or minimum handicap: it is best to ask the office.

The club: history, clubhouse and school

Valtellina Golf Club grew out of the gamble of a group of enthusiastic sponsors and opened in May 1999, helping to spread golf in the province of Sondrio. In 2007 it hosted the 3rd Lombardy Professionals Championship; the players' appreciation convinced the club to extend the course from nine to eighteen holes.

The clubhouse has the style of a mountain chalet, with windows over the green, dishes from the Valtellina tradition and a selection of Valtellina wines; the restaurant is changing management. Since March 2025 teaching has been entrusted to the Reale Golf School: lessons and courses for every level with Stefano Reale and Alessandro Napoli, plus introductory activities for younger players.

Curiosities about Valtellina Golf Club

  • A year to double. Earthworks began in the autumn of 2009 and the eighteen holes opened on 16 October 2010.
  • Two grasses on the greens. Tees and greens on holes 1-3 and 13-18 are Agrostis Penncross, those on holes 4 to 12 Agrostis L93.
  • Practice in the rain. The driving range has five covered bays, useful on bad-weather days in the valley.
  • Between two ranges. The course lies between the Rhaetian Alps and the Orobie, with a view of the Adamello and Monte Disgrazia.
