The hills of La Serra were originally meant to host a residential neighbourhood. Instead, a group of citizens of Valenza, in the late 1960s, gave the land over to golf: the result is a nine-hole course with its clubhouse in a 19th-century farmhouse looking out over the Po Valley.

The Golf Club La Serra course: nine holes between the Apennines and Monte Rosa
The course is a nine-hole layout of 2,780 metres laid out on the hills above Valenza; the club gives a par 72 over 18 holes, the distance on which competitions are played. The terrain is hilly and, according to the club, the greens are shielded by tall trees, which call for precise approach shots more than power.
From the course the view sweeps over the plain and the mountains, from the arc of the Ligurian Apennines to Monte Rosa. It is a provincial club course in the best sense: compact, with a busy calendar and an atmosphere that the club itself describes as “Monferrato-style”.
Playing Golf Club La Serra as a guest
Tee times are booked online through the club's website, via the Bookingolf platform, or at the office on 0131 954778. The club does not publish its green fee for guests: the 2026 price list available online covers membership fees only. Season, closing day and required handicap must also be asked at the office.
For those who want to improve, individual and group lessons are given by the instructor Eugenio Bellomo, who also coaches children from the age of six in the mini club.
The club: history, clubhouse and facilities
The first president was Franco Nobile, with Carlo Cerutti as vice-president. The nine holes were soon joined by the clubhouse, a swimming pool and tennis courts. In the 1970s the professional Michele Avanzino trained the first local golfers; from 1988, for more than twenty years, management passed through the hands of the secretary Paolo Grecu. Today the club organises around 50 competitions a year, including the Targa d'Oro and the Coppa del Presidente.
The clubhouse is housed in a farmhouse from the early 1800s and has a portico overlooking Valenza. The restaurant serves local cuisine with regional wines and is open to non-members too, preferably with a booking. There is also a meeting room and a pro shop where members can try demo irons on the practice area.
