The Claviere course was born in 1923 with nine holes played on both sides of the state road, starting from the Hotel Santi, under the patronage of Prince Umberto of Savoy. Today the Golf Club Claviere, in the Upper Susa Valley, is one of the five oldest clubs in Italy.

The Golf Club Claviere course: 9 holes in the Upper Susa Valley
The Claviere course has nine holes: on the website the holes are numbered 1 to 9 and, for the second round, 10 to 18. The club writes that every hole “stays etched in the memory” for its character, and that some are remembered by names tied to the hazards the player meets, a custom handed down since the club's origins.
The website does not publish par, length, altitude or the architect's name, so we do not state them. The original 1923 layout differed from today's: the nine holes crossed the state road and were played on both sides. After the war the course was rebuilt, and in recent years the club has renovated both the buildings and the course.
Playing Golf Club Claviere as a guest
Claviere is a seasonal course: the website states that the 2026 season has ended and that the club looks forward to seeing players in summer 2027. Before planning a trip, it is therefore worth checking the reopening dates.
The published price list gives no year of validity. It lists 40 euros for 9 holes and 60 euros for 18 holes, with half price for juniors on nine holes (20 euros), 48 euros for ski instructors and an international rate of 63 euros, which includes a token for the driving range. The electric trolley costs 10 euros for nine holes and 20 for eighteen; a driving-range token costs 3 euros, and a book of five 13.50 euros.
The website gives no minimum handicap and no weekly closing days.
The club: from Prince Umberto to the Lavazza family
The club was founded in 1923 with nine holes laid out from the Hotel Santi, under the patronage of Prince Umberto of Savoy. In 1926 it affiliated to the Italian Golf Federation, becoming one of the five oldest clubs in Italy. During the war the course stayed closed and was rebuilt after the conflict.
In 1951 the presidency passed to Giuseppe Lavazza, who began the modernisation; in 1971 he was succeeded by his son Emilio Lavazza, who led the club until his death on 16 February 2010. The Lavazza family continues to run the club. The club collaborates with the Golf Club Sestriere and with the municipalities of Claviere and Montgenèvre, on the French side.
