The Bormio Golf Club course: nine holes overlooking the Stelvio piste

The Fornace course was designed by the architect Mario Verdieri of St. Moritz. It has 9 holes: six par 4s and three par 3s, each with a personality of its own. The club admits that the length is not remarkable (for the 18-hole round the yellow tees measure 4,330 metres, with a course rating of 62.4 and a slope of 111), but every hole hides a trap: fairways sloping against the line of play, dense rough and greens whose slopes are hard to read. Adding to the challenge is the wind, often from the south.

Three holes to remember. The 3rd is the longest, a 330-metre dog-leg with a large bunker on the right. The 4th is, according to the club, one of the most demanding: a par 3 with out of bounds along the whole right side and two deep bunkers defending the green. The 8th is a par 4 of more than 300 metres, with an uphill green and the best view on the course: in the background, the Stelvio piste.

Playing Bormio Golf Club as a guest

The course is open every day, generally from early April to the first week of November; opening hours are 9:30 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday and 9 am to 5:30 pm at weekends. The 2026 price list (rates for FIG members) gives 45 euros for 18 holes in low season, 55 in July and 85 in August; 9 holes cost 30, 35 and 50 euros. Under-18s get a 30 per cent discount.

You can rent golf carts (50 euros for 18 holes, 30 for nine), electric trolleys (25 and 15 euros), manual trolleys (5 euros) and a full set of clubs with balls and tees. The practice area costs 15 euros a day (20 in August). The website does not state a minimum handicap.

The club: from 1989 to Bormio's long season

The club was founded by a few golfers from Bormio. In 1989 the course opened with three holes in the La Fornace area, where one of the most modern farms in Lombardy had once stood. In May 1991, with only 4 holes, it was affiliated to the Italian Golf Federation; in 1994 two more were added and in August 1996 the 9-hole course was inaugurated, rated by the FIG.

Since 2023 it has been managed by Golf Club Bormio SSD a rl, and in 2024 the club joined the Como Lake Golf Destination consortium, which brings together 11 clubs. It organises 60 to 70 competitions a year, among them the Club Championship (from 21 April to 26 October 2026).

The spacious driving range has 12 covered bays, a 9-hole putting green, an approach area and a practice bunker; lessons are given by the teacher Jorge Daniel Tudino. The club also offers a pro shop, changing rooms and bag storage.
