Golf in Abruzzo is played against a backdrop of the Apennines: at Santi di Preturo, on the edge of L'Aquila, San Donato is a mountain course with streams and a small lake.
Further east, among the olive groves and vineyards of the Miglianico hills, the Cerreto, designed by Ronald Kirby, hosted the golf event of the 2009 Mediterranean Games. In Chieti, the Adriatico Golf Club weaves its holes among lakes and hills, with views stretching from the mountains to the Abruzzo riviera.
