In 1993 and 1994 the Women's Italian Open was played among the pines of Lignano. The course is an 18-hole layout on 70 hectares by Marco Croze, an associate of the British designer John D. Harris, with small lakes and large sand bunkers a short distance from the sea, and it can be played every day of the year.

The Golf Club Lignano course: 18 holes among pines, water and sand

The layout covers 70 hectares and is the work of Marco Croze, an Italian golf course architect and associate of the Briton John D. Harris. The club says it was conceived with respect for the existing environment: long fairways, large greens and vast stretches of sand frame small lakes and stretches of water in the middle of a pine wood. It describes the course as suitable for experts and beginners alike, yet technically demanding and able to change from one round to the next.

The mild climate allows play every day of the year. The course has hosted several international events: the Women's Italian Open in 1993 and 1994, the PGA's Champions Trophy of Europe in 2008, the Alps Tour Servizitalia Open in 2012 and 2015 and the Lignano Open in 2017.

As for upkeep, in 2022 the club earned the “Outstanding” status on Leading Courses, reserved for courses scoring above 8.5, placing second in Italy. For the Golfhäftet portal it was the best club in Italy in 2021 and 2023. The website does not publish the par or the length of the course.

Playing at Golf Club Lignano as a guest

The club has a public price list for 2026, but the 18-hole green fee for adults in high season is not fixed: the rate depends on date and time and is checked online when booking on the Golf Manager system. Some months have a fixed price: 45 euros in December and January, 65 in February, 55 in November, 75 in October. Under-18s pay 55 euros for 18 holes; for nine holes the price ranges from 30 euros in winter to 55 in autumn.

There are special formulas: Midday at 60 euros from 1 July to 23 August between 12 and 1 pm, Sunset at 65 euros in summer from 5 pm (95 with a golf cart), and from 23 August to 31 October Sundays at 65 euros for FIG members, with the competition entry included. Ten 18-hole green fees cost 800 euros.

A golf cart costs 40 euros for nine holes and 50-55 for 18, a trolley 6 euros. Starting times change with the seasons: from May to early September the 1st tee opens at 7:30 am and the 10th at 9 am. Cancellations must be made two days ahead for groups of 1 to 4 players, otherwise the full fee is charged. The website does not state the required handicap or a closing day: ask the office on 0431 428025.

The club: Golf Sport Academy, restaurant and hotel

The practice range has 9 covered bays and more than 50 on grass, with two putting greens of more than 700 square metres each and a pitching green. Since 2018 the club has hosted the Golf Sport Academy, run by Thomas Feyrsinger, a professional with more than 10,000 hours of teaching: it is the second base after the one in Kitzbühel, opened in 2013. Since 2023 there has also been an air-conditioned teaching studio with a synthetic-turf floor, Trackman for ball-flight analysis and a simulator.

The Ristorante Al Golf, with a terrace overlooking the course, is open from 12 to 9:30 pm and focuses on fresh fish and border cuisine: among the dishes is risotto with silene, a wild Friulian herb. Guests can stay at the Hotel Golf Inn, with 24 rooms overlooking the course, and there is a spa.

The 2026 calendar includes Il Club 9 buche, a midweek series of 16 stages between April and October that rewards the winner with the green jacket, the Circuito in Rosa, Lignano for Senior and Lignano for Medal.
