The Golf Club Marigola course: nine holes on the terraces of the Gulf of Poets

The course has nine holes, par 28, which played twice make an 18-hole round, par 56. The architects are Franco Marmori and Bellò. The club describes it as having sculpted fairways, English-style greens and panoramic glimpses of the Gulf of Poets: here, it says, precision matters more than distance.

Each hole has a name. The 2nd, “La terrazza sul Golfo” (The Terrace over the Gulf), plays from an elevated tee with a sea view and calls for a shot that lands in a narrow, well-defended area. The 3rd, “Lo Sguardo sul Castello” (The Gaze on the Castle), has a small green with Lerici Castle in the background. The 4th, “L'Anfiteatro degli Ulivi” (The Amphitheatre of Olive Trees), has a broad but treacherous green, with two bunkers in front and a steep slope. The 6th, “Il Gigante Buono” (The Gentle Giant), is a short par 4 with water down the side and bunkers, and the 7th has a raised green. At the 8th, “La Paura Silenziosa” (The Silent Fear), a lake just beyond the tee tests the mind before the swing. The round ends with the 9th, a dog-leg to the right with a slight climb, with a long, narrow green: from the back tees a high shot is needed to clear the trees.

The club: from a three-hole course to WHS rating

The story begins in 1960, when the owners of the Villa Marigola park had a small three-hole course built for their exclusive use. In the 1980s it grew to seven holes, with a restaurant and an office; at the end of the decade the property passed to the Migliorini family, who commissioned Marmori and Bellò to design a nine-hole course on the same land. The Golf Club Marigola was founded on 12 January 1987 and has been affiliated to the Italian Golf Federation since 1 June of the same year. The practice range dates from the early 2000s.

In February 2026 the club obtained World Handicap System rating. The improvement programme includes realigning and enlarging the tees and overseeding the fairways. The restaurant is called Bogey19.
